14 Between the Sheets NEWS FOR BOATERS - RACERS AND CRUISERS November 2012

“Sailors get to know each other better when there is a storm. ” - French proverb DON’T FORGET

AWARDS DINNER…………………..……….Sat. Nov. 10 ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING……..…..…Wed. Dec.12 WASSAIL………………………………….….Sun. Dec. 16 HEADS UP **************************************************************** 2013 CRUISE WEEK Planned for July 8 - 13 from - Kirk Robertson - Protest Chair & PHRF Rep. LOOK FOR MORE DETAILS IN THE FIRST SPRING EDITION OF FULL&BY [email protected] The boats are on the hard (well almost all). So what happened and what to look for next year? We had a normal number of protests; one serious collision, which was a true accident; some rule learning, and more protests as the series wound up. There is one request for redress at appeal; the result should clear up just when redress should and should not be given. Next year is the update year for the RRS. They are PRESENTATION available on the ISAF web site now. One change that the Sailing Committee will be looking at is the permission to DINNER use an engine when grounded in upriver races. A few boats will be interested, I am sure. This was the first year when a broad re-rating of boats took place. Not sure it changed any results SATURDAY, significantly. The hope was that boats without spinnakers could race equally with boats with them. A few more NOVEMBER 10, 2012 years will be needed to see if it works out. Maybe it will change how Kelpie is measured. Owners should understand that fore-sails less than 155% can generate credits to their rating. I started racing PHRF-LO in the 70s, although I really noticed the "big 2012 jennies" when I got my own boat, many boats had 175% or greater genoas. Now almost none have larger than 155%. I suspect we may see smaller genoas become the norm; I know I am thinking about it. Please check out the PHRF web site, before you modify your boat and/or sails
