MEMPHIS-TULSA SERIES Saturday’s Conference USA Tournament championship game versus Tulsa is the 27th overall meeting between the two schools. Memphis holds a 14-12 series advantage. The Tigers won the two 2007-08 regular season encounters – 56-41 on Jan. 23 in Tulsa and 82-67 on Feb. 27 in Memphis. The Tigers have won six straight in the overall series and 14 of the last 15, dating back to 1971-72. The Golden Hurricane’s lone victory in the last 15 meetings was a 72-64 win over the Tigers in the NIT semifinals in 2001. Tulsa won the first 11 meetings between the two schools from 1964-65 through 1970-71. In games played in the Bluff City, the Tigers hold a 7-6 series lead and have won six straight over Tulsa at home. The Tigers have never met the Golden Hurricane in the C-USA Tournament. Memphis and Tulsa also have never played in conference tournament play, as both schools were also members of the Missouri Valley Conference in the mid-to-late 1960s and early 1970s.

CALIPARI IN EIGHTH YEAR AT HELM OF TIGER PROGRAM (Clarion State, 1982) is in his eighth season at the helm of the Memphis Tiger basketball program. He has a 213-64 record (.769 winning percentage) at Memphis. The 2007-08 season is his 16th as a collegiate head coach. The Moon, Pa., native has an overall collegiate coaching record of 406-135 (.750 winning percentage). While at Memphis, Calipari has led the Tigers to eight-straight 20-win seasons and seven-consecutive postseason berths.

TRYING TO BE ONE OF TWO When the Tigers take the court Saturday, they are hoping to become one of only two teams in the nation to post an undefeated conference regular season mark and also claim the league’s tournament title. Memphis took the C-USA regular season crown with a perfect 16-0 record and has advanced to the C-USA Tournament title game. The only team at this time to accomplish the feat is Davidson. The Wildcats won the Southern Conference regular season crown with a 20-0 mark and also won the SoCon Tournament title. Last year, the Tigers were also one of two schools to accomplish the feat of going perfect in their conference regular season and also win their league tournament. Memphis joined Winthrop as the nation’s only two schools to do that in 2006- 07.

ALLEN RETURNS TO ACTION FRIDAY Andre Allen returned to action Friday in the C-USA Tournament semifinal win over Southern Miss. The 5-foot-10 guard missed Thursday’s C-USA Tournament quarterfinal win over Tulane with a sprained right ankle. It was the first game Allen missed this year. In the victory over Southern Miss, Allen only had three points, one and one , but took three crucial charges to halt three Golden Eagle comeback attempts.

DO YOU REMEMBER?... PART I The Tigers played their first game as the nation’s No. 1 team when they traveled to Tulsa for a Jan. 23 encounter. Memphis moved into the No. 1 spot in the Jan. 21 polls. The Tigers defeated the Golden Hurricane 56-41, marking the program’s first-ever victory as the nation’s No. 1 team. Prior to this season, the only other time Memphis was the No. 1 in the country was February of 1983, but just hours after taking over the top spot, the Tigers lost at Virginia Tech 69-54.

DO YOU REMEMBER?... PART II Memphis clinched at least a tie for the Conference USA regular season title with its 82-67 win over Tulsa Feb. 27. The victory pushed the Tigers’ regular season record at 13-0 at the time. Three days later (Mar. 1), Memphis clinched the C-USA regular season crown outright with a win at Southern Miss.

GETTING’ DEFENSIVE ON SATURDAY Things could get a little defensive in Saturday’s C-USA Tournament title game. Memphis and Tulsa are ranked in the top three in Conference USA in scoring defense (Memphis, 1st; Tulsa, 2nd), percentage defense (1st; 3rd), rebounding margin (1st; 3rd) and blocked shots (1st; 2nd). The game features two of the league’s top rebounders and shot blockers in Memphis’ Joey Dorsey and Tulsa’s Jerome Jordan. Dorsey is ranked first in rebounding and third in blocks, while Jordan is second in rebounding and first in blocks.

GOING FOR THE TIE With a victory in the C-USA Tournament title game Saturday, the 2007-08 Tigers would tie the school record for wins in a season with 33. Memphis currently has a 32-1 overall record. The 2005-06 and 2006-07 Memphis squads set the single- season wins mark with 33 wins in each of those two campaigns (33-4 both years).

MARCH IS WHAT’S IT’S ALL ABOUT John Calipari’s teams always improve as the season progresses toward March, which is the month all college teams play for. And, Calipari’s teams are ready to play in March and that can be seen in his career record in the month. Calipari has an 80-27 record (.748 winning percentage) in games played in March. In his previous 15 years as a collegiate head coach, Calipari has guided his teams to 14 postseasons (nine NCAA, five NIT). He led UMass to the 1996 NCAA Final Four and Memphis to the 2002 NIT championship.

HAVING 30 WINS ENTERING THE NCAA Although the Tigers don’t know where they are going or what seed they will have, they will enter the NCAA Tournament with 30 or more victories for a third-straight year. Memphis will be the first school in NCAA history to enter the NCAA Tournament with 30 or more wins three-consecutive seasons. The Tigers are 32-1 this year, and went into NCAA Tournament play with 30-3 record in both 2005-06 and 2006-07. In the history of the NCAA Tournament, only 27 teams (prior to 2008) entered the NCAA Tournament with 30 or more victories.

CALIPARI’S TEAMS TOUGH AT THE TOP When teams are ranked in the top five, they become huge targets for all opponents they play. That has been true for John Calipari-coached teams at both UMass and Memphis. But, while some top-ranked teams fall easily, Calipari squads have done quite well, and in turn, have had staying power near the top of the polls. Calipari’s UMass and Memphis teams have an impressive combined record of 97-8 when ranked in the top four of the national polls (.924 winning percentage). At Memphis, Calipari’s teams are 52-4 (.929 winning percentage) when ranked in the top four. During his time at UMass, the Minutemen went 45-4 (.918 winning percentage) when ranked in the top four. The following shows Calipari’s record when ranked at or near the top:

Memphis UMass No. 1 9-1 31-4 No. 2 17-0 6-0 No. 3 14-1 4-0 No. 4 12-2 4-0 Totals 52-4 45-4

CALIPARI HAS PERSONAL THREE-30-PEAT When the Tigers won their 30th game of the 2007-08 campaign on Mar. 8 with a 94-56 victory over UAB, it was an historic moment not only for head coach John Calipari but also in NCAA Division I hoops. With the Tigers’ 30th win (30-1 record), it is the third-straight season of 30-plus victories for Memphis under Calipari. Memphis is now 31-1. Only one other head coach in NCAA Division I history has had three-consecutive 30-win seasons, and that coach was Kentucky’s Adolph Rupp. He directed the Wildcats to three-straight 30-win seasons in 1946-47 (34-3), 1947-48 (36-3) and 1948-49 (32-2).

MORE 30-WIN HISTORY When the Tigers secured their 30th win Mar. 8, head coach John Calipari wasn’t the only one that made NCAA Division I basketball history. The Memphis program also put its name in the NCAA record books. The Tiger hoops program is the second in NCAA Division I history to record three-consecutive 30-win seasons. Kentucky is the other school to accomplish the feat, and the Wildcats did it on two occasions. Kentucky had three-straight 30- win campaigns from 1947-49 and 1996-98.

CALIPARI HAS FIFTH 30-WIN SEASON With the Tigers’ victory over UAB Mar. 8, head coach John Calipari recorded his fifth 30-win season as a collegiate head coach. It is his third-straight 30-victory season at Memphis, as the Tigers went 33-4 in both 2005-06 and 2006-07. Memphis is 30-1 entering the Conference USA Tournament. As a result of this year’s 30-win campaign, Calipari now occupies the No. 4 spot on the NCAA Division I list for coaches with 30-win seasons. The following lists the top five NCAA Division I coaches with 30-win campaigns:

Head Coach No. of 30-win seasons Mike Krzyzewski 9 Roy Williams 7 Jim Calhoun 6 John Calipari 5 Knight/Pitino/Richardson/ 4 Rupp/Tarkanian/Wooden

WINS IN THREE-YEAR PERIOD With its win over Tulane in the C-USA Tournament quarterfinal Mar. 12, Memphis has won an incredible 97 games the last three seasons. The 97 victories since 2005-06 places Memphis in a tie for the No. 12 spot on the all-time NCAA Division I list for most wins in three years. Kentucky tops the list with 104 wins from 1996-98. The following shows the top five on that list and where Memphis stands:

Most Wins In a Three-Year Period NCAA Division I

1. Kentucky 1994-96 104 2. Kentucky 1947-49 102 t. Montana St. 1927-29 102 4. Duke 1999-2001 101 5. Memphis 2006-pres. 98 t. 7 other teams 98

STREAKING IN C-USA Despite the Tigers having their season win streak (26 straight) and their homecourt win streak (47 straight) come to an end, they still have two streaks going in Conference USA play. The Tigers have won 33-straight regular season Conference USA games and 41-straight C-USA overall contests, including the league’s postseason tournaments. The last time Memphis suffered a setback to a C-USA foe was Mar. 2, 2006, when the Tigers fell at UAB 80-74 — a span of 743 days. The 41-game win streak (includes C-USA Tournaments) is the longest in C-USA history. The 33-game regular-season win streak is also tops in C-USA history, moving past Cincinnati’s 21-game regular season win streak from 1998-99 through 2000-01.

HE’S IN THE CLUB! Well, it took a little longer than expected in the Dec. 29 Arizona game, but Chris Douglas-Roberts reached the 1,000-point milestone for his career. He entered the contest needing only five points to reach the goal, and with 2:07 in the first half, the 6-foot-7 guard scored his 1,000th point on an emphatic dunk off an assist from Derrick Rose. Douglas-Roberts is the 43rd player in Tiger history to accomplish the feat. He now has 1,389 career points, and the Detroit, Mich., is in the No. 13 spot on the Tiger career scoring chart, and the following shows that:

Memphis Career Scoring 1. Keith Lee/1981-85...... 2,408 . . . 11. Andre Turner/1982-86...... 1,442 12. Mike Butler/1965-68 ...... 1,409 13. Chris Douglas-Roberts/2005-pres.. 1,389 14. Alvin Wright/1974-78 ...... 1,319 14. Anfernee Hardaway/1991-93...... 1,319

DORSEY HAS THE WINS RECORD! While many Tiger fans know Joey Dorsey’s climb up the career rebounding chart, there is another career list the 6-foot-9 forward is moving up. With Memphis’ win over Siena Jan. 3, Dorsey won his 100th game as a Tiger, and his record now stands at 120-25 (22-16 in 2004-05; 33-4 in 2005-06 and 2006-07; 32-1 in 2007-08). Dorsey’s 112th career win (when the Tigers defeated Houston Feb. 13) set a new mark for most victories by a four-year class. The previous record was 111 wins by the 1986-87 seniors and Clyde Wade, who finished up his career in 2006-07. The following shows the winningest four-year classes in Tiger history:

Class Wins 2004-05 to present 120 1983-84 to 1986-87 111 2002-03; 2004-05 to 2006-07 111 1982-83 to 1985-86 108 1984-85 to 1987-88 105 1981-82 to 1984-85 104

DORSEY HAS THE RECORD!! Joey Dorsey is not only climbing the Memphis career rebounding list. He is also moving up the Conference USA all-time rebounding chart. The 6-foot-9 forward has 1,146 career boards, which gives him the C-USA rebounding mark. Former Memphis standout Kelly Wise held the league mark at 1,075 career rebounds. The following are the top five rebounders in C-USA history:

C-USA Career Rebounds 1. Joey Dorsey (MEM)/2004-present. 1,146 2. Kelly Wise (MEM)/1998-2002...... 1,075 3. Ellis Myles (UL)/2000-05 ...... 998 4. B.B. Waldon (USF)/1998-2002 ...... 928 5. Jason Maxiell (CIN)/2002-05...... 908

DORSEY HITS 1,000 BOARD MILESTONE With his 19-board performance versus Tulsa Jan. 23, Joey Dorsey became only the fifth player in Memphis basketball history to join the 1,000-rebound club. After two rebounds versus Southern Miss Mar. 14, the 6-foot-9 forward is in the No. 2 spot on the Tiger career rebounding list with 1,146 career rebounds. The Baltimore, Md., native joined an elite group that includes Keith Lee, Forest Arnold, Kelly Wise and Ronnie Robinson. The following are the top five rebounders in Tiger history:
