This year we set ourselves entry- for me- into the youth culture of mystery and JK Rowling’s’ a big challenge – to sing more pieces at the concert and to do a great ability to represent good/evil, curiosity, fantasy into the second night! We were joined by Niamh Murray, who added so childlike understanding of today’s culture. In other words all that much to the evening with her beautiful voice and vivacious way makes life and our attempts to understand it. Like the monastic of engaging with the audience. Charles Pearson, our organist site Skellig Michael as space for Jedi- Kerry becomes a part now and accompanist, provided wonderful support for us all. It is an of human narrative seeking explanation. From Ryan’s’ Daughter opportunity here to let all those who supported the concert know to Star Wars represents the shift. That youthful question got that the sum of €11,000 was raised. This fantastic sum of money will me to look up Dumbledore and I beheld Richard Harris in a long benefit National School, St. Mary and St. Gerard’s purple cloak and then understood the association. It is also of understanding culture shift- from The Field and Bull McCabe the opportunity to thank all those who gave their time so willingly to Hogwarts and Dumbledore- our society tells stories to express to make the concerts such lovely musical evenings, enjoyed by deeper issues. The stories reflect the issue and the cultural so many. Thank you. The choir has now turned its attention to expression of the question. As Irish we are people of narrative preparing for the Easter celebrations and to tackling some new and as far back as ancient Irish An Tain to Gulliver’s’ travels, or music! The period from January to June offers the choir the chance Dickens Christmas Carol, we express through words, the stories to focus on new music and to work on pieces we have learned in of our search. No one will ask you to demand. It is often said that artist, painters, poets, writers see the sing on your own and you might just enjoy it! Men, of course, are formation of the event before we can describe it as if these arts particularly welcome as they are always in short supply in a choir! were prophetic. Without imagination and creative expression we become grey and predictable and controlling- society becomes determined into nothing subject to soulless repetition until it becomes fossilised. As St. Paul writes- ‘ we see in a glass dimly then face to face’. Biblical stories abound in mystery, Noah’s Ark, David and Goliath, Rahab’s story, and the greek stories of Aeschylus, Oedipus, Antigone. It is because we sense and intuit before we see and hear that mystery is an important facility to understand the ‘what is not’ visible. We sense before we see. We sense before we ‘make sense’. These stories of Harry Potter and the stories of our childhood put exterior expression of the deeper successes and conflicts with our unconscious. How many famous gardens are developed on a piece of paper before they become standards, how many music scores are heard within the composers gift before played out.

That youthful question of a creative mind expressed imagination and association and was alert to a resolution of mystery. We have in the past mixed up rote learning with understanding and religion with spirituality. We might recite a formula without knowing why, and obey rhyme of a commandment without context. Jesus spoke in parables… the kingdom of heaven is like.. Mystery is the playground of the divine and creativity its camera.

We sang old and new year whereby they have shared their knowledge and experience carols . With one or two secular songs thrown in. The congregation with us. Thank you all so stayed on to partake of some refreshments, lots of conversations much. We look forward and good cheer! to another interesting programme of activities Christmas morning saw David Moya and Geraldine on Harp join during 2018 along with the Choir with Bryan on Organ. The children gathered on the altar welcoming any new before Mass began and gave us a lovely treat, all having practiced young people who wish to on violins and voice. The church was full to beyond capacity. The join us on our journey of music was simply wonderful and the choir pulled out all the stops, exploring ‘Life Skills’. ‘I never thought I’d be the type of person joined by Evelyn for O! Holy Night. Now we are back to the who would get up early in the morning to exercise. — I was right’! normal weekly rote. However Easter is on the horizon. No resting Niall and Kate on Laurels! A Happy New Year to all our readers.
