Michael Librizzi, Regional Real Estate Officer New York State Department of Transportation, Region 10 State Office Building 250 Veterans Memorial Highway Hauppauge, NY 11788

Dear Mr. Librizzi:

As residents, stakeholders and interested parties in the Huntington Station revitalization effort, we ask you to approve the request to transfer to the Town of Huntington ownership of the portion of the New York State Department of Transportation land along New York State Route 110 between the Rail Road tracks and Church Street. This land transfer will facilitate new development that is central to the revitalization effort.

The current plans, which are the result of cooperation among the community, the Town of Huntington and the Huntington Station master developer, Renaissance Downtowns -- include: a 140-key boutique hotel and 100,000-square foot office space directly across the street from, the train station, with associated parking; a 3-story mixed-use building at New York Avenue and Olive Street with 16,000 square feet of commercial space on the first floor and 68 studio and one-bedroom apartments on the upper floors; a 15,000-square-foot commercial building at Northridge Street and New York Avenue; and a building with 49 units of artists’ work and living space at New York Avenue and Church Street. These are exciting projects that will help bring new vitality to this part of Huntington Station.

These projects will bring new residents, new businesses and a new focus to the community by restoring the vibrant downtown destroyed by urban renewal a half century ago when buildings on New York Avenue were razed. However, for some of these significant projects to move forward, we understand that the DOT-owned land would need to be transferred from State to Town.

We are extremely grateful for and excited about the cooperation and commitment the DOT has shown to date and ask that you help facilitate the transfer to allow these exciting revitalization projects to proceed which will create much needed jobs and economic development for the area. Thank you for showing us that you share our vision of a revitalized Huntington Station and for collaborating with the community.

Sincerely,
