There are 41 distinct instances of Jesus bringing physical and/or mental and emotional healing in the Gospels, including the following: • Man with unclean spirit (Mark 1:23 - 27) • Man with Leprosy (Matthew 8:2 - 3) • Man with withered hand (Luke 6:6 - 10) • Widow's son raised (Luke 7:11 - 15) • Gadarenes Demoniac (Matthew 8:28 - 33) As Jesus was preparing His disciples for His departure He specifically instructed them to continue to do what He had done on earth. I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. John 14:12 Healing through the Prayers of God's People One of the primary avenues by which God chooses to bring healing is through the prayers of His people. Built on our understanding of the priesthood of all believers (1 Peter 2:9) and that all believers are gifted by the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:4-7) and called to use the gifts in ministry, our calling includes equipping the people of God (Ephesians 4:11-12) to participate actively and responsibly in becoming a community that truly ministers wholeness and hope. Some examples of God healing through the prayers of His people include these instances: 1 • The early believers prayed God would heal people (Acts 4:30). • Many were healed by the Apostles' ministry (Acts 5:12,15 -16). • Phillip had a ministry of deliverance and healing. When they saw what he did they paid attention to what he said. (Acts 8:6-7). • Ananias was sent to bring healing to Saul (Acts 9:17 - 18). Paul prayed for healing (Acts 28:8). • Peter prayed for the paralytic, Aeneas (Acts 9:32 - 34) Therefore, confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective. James 5:16 Varied Gifts Are Used to Bring God's Wholeness Jesus' ministry of bringing healing and wholeness needs to be central to the church's ministry and must continue through His people today. In the power of the Spirit, we want to contribute to spiritual, emotional, psychological and physical wholeness (1 Thessalonians 5:23). The ministry of healing can take place in many settings. God also uses a variety of skills and spiritual gifts to help bring that about, as He did in the Early Church. Some examples of this follow: • Disciples given authority and direction (Matthew 10:1,8) • The Twelve sent (Mark 3:13 - 19) • The Seventy sent (Luke 10:1 - 24) • Jesus gives the power to bind and loose (Matthew 16:13 -20) • Peter heals crippled beggar (Acts 3:6 - 8) • Apostles heal many (Acts 5:12 - 16) • Eutychus raised from the dead by Paul (Acts 20:10 -12) • Call for the Elders to pray and anoint with oil (James 5:13 -15) • Peter raises Tabitha (Acts 9:40) 2 There is a danger that we come to expect God to heal in a certain way if we say just the right words or if we anoint the individual with oil or lay hands on them or perform some other ritual. We can close ourselves off to the infinite variety of ways God may choose to heal. We may be offended by how an individual prays for healing (loud, boisterous, demanding.) We may be turned off by their ministry style, dress, or belief. We must come to accept that God uses an infinite variety of people and ways to accomplish His healing. Mike Evans, Director of Wholeness Ministries, shares the following example: I attended a healing seminar where I witnessed that when people were being prayed for, the hands of some of those praying were trembling. Not having seen this before, I quickly concluded that it really was not biblical and was probably attributable to the emotion of the moment. I relayed this comment to a brother who was likewise convinced that this behavior was questionable and we concluded that it was obviously not for us as we were reasonable men not easily overcome with such emotions. The next evening we were praying for a woman standing by us who had asked for prayer for scoliosis in her back. As I put my hand near her back, guess what started trembling? Not only that, but my hand also moved up and down her back as we watched in amazement the spinal column move and shift so that shortly she was completely healed and standing upright. Needless to say, my friend was quite puzzled by my "emotional" behavior and I was embarrassed and perplexed that this had happened. That evening as I was talking with God I asked him this question: "Why did you do that to me?" He said, quite clearly, "Michael do not ever make fun of how I may choose to heal people." Needless to say I quickly got the point. Different Dimensions of Healing Just as it did in Jesus' ministry, we understand that healing may have different dimensions. God sometimes heals sovereignly without prayer, sometimes as a result of general prayer, and sometimes as a result of specific prayer targeting particular needs. It is important for us to remember that we are not responsible for healing. Our responsibility is to be obedient and pray; God is responsible for the healing. 3 I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God made it grow. So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow. 1 Corinthians 3:6-7 • One dimension is Spiritual Healing (Repentance) for personal sin (Acts 2:28, 3:19, 1 John 1:9). This repentance can be both for salvation and/or sins we have committed as believers. Scripture clearly tells us that all mankind is born into sin. Unless we repent and accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior we will spend eternity separated from God. • Another dimension is Physical Healing (Luke 4:38-40; Mark 1:40-42). This may be instantaneous, or it may require continual prayer over a period of time, sometimes called "soaking prayer." If we are led to pray for physical healing, God answers our requests in a variety of ways. There may be full healing, an improvement, or no improvement that we can see. Sometimes sickness is "sickness unto death," which for the Christian is the "ultimate healing." Healing is God's work, so we acknowledge that we stand before much that is mystery. A third dimension is Inner Healing, dealing with the

  • Spiritual Warfare I
SPIRITUAL WARFARE I Mid Week Instruction Reid Temple AME Church Pastor Washington LESSON DISCUSSION • What is Spiritual Warfare? • The Battle of the Mind LESSON DISCUSSION • Successful Deliverance • Gift of Discernment WHAT IS SPIRITUAL WARFARE? WHAT IS SPIRITUAL WARFARE? • Christian believers use this expression to refer to the ongoing battle between the forces of good (God, Christ, the angels) and the forces of evil (Satan, the demons). WHAT IS SPIRITUAL WARFARE? • On an individual level, each person, no matter how saintly, is a battlefield where good and evil meet, clash, and clash again. • What takes place in the individual takes place in the world at large—Christ versus Satan SPIRITUAL WARFARE - INWARD BATTLE • Romans 7:23. It happens so regularly that it is predictable. The moment I decide to do good, sin is there to trip me up. I truly delight in God's command, but it's pretty obvious that not all of me joins in that delight. Parts of me covertly rebel, and just when I least expect it, they take charge. SPIRITUAL WARFARE - INWARD BATTLE • Romans 7:24: I've tried everything and nothing helps. I'm at the end off my rope. I there no one who can do anything for me? Isn't that the real question? SPIRITUAL VICTORY • Victory begins with the name of Jesus on your lips but it will not be consummated until the nature of Jesus is in our hearts. • Satan will be allowed to come against the area of your weakness until you realize God's only answer is to be Christlike.

  • In Christianity, Deliverance Ministry Refers to the Activity of Cleansing
In Christianity , deliverance ministry refers to the activity of cleansing a person of demons and evil spirits in order to address problems manifesting in their life as a result of the presence of said entities and the root causes of their authority to oppress the person. Adherents to this theological concept attribute physical, psychological, spiritual and emotional problems that people suffer to the activities of the oppressing spirits following the example of Jesus Christ given in the gospel . The practices and many of the underlying beliefs of these ministries are not accepted by all Christians. Methods Deliverance ministries focus on casting out the spirit or spirits believed to cause an affliction. The method of casting out varies. Some adherents directly recite Biblical examples in prayer intended to command a demon to depart an afflicted person, and do not believe an ordained clergy is required to perform the deliverance. Ministries also organize the removal from homes of items that are believed to harbor demons, including fantasy or horror novels , and artworks / artifacts depicting pagan gods .[citation needed ] Members are instructed to burn items that are related to idol worship, "demon drawing" symbols and music that summons demons. Although Rev. Don Jeffrey, An exorcist in Arizona states that any and all of these objects should be exorcised of any evil spirits and blessed before burning them or sending them to the dump. An Ouija board is a perfect example of this. It acts like a gateway for the demonic and must be exorcised and blessed, the gate must be closed before it is destroyed.
