In September, Rosalyn, a Del-One member, went to the Smyrna branch and asked if the credit union could offer a debit card image for breast cancer awareness. Del-One brought this great idea to fruition, and put the card image out to the membership for a $10 donation to the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition. A total of 287 members took advantage of this, and a to- tal of $2,870 was raised! The Del-One Founda- tion then matched that amount, and a check for $5,870 was donated to the DBCC. Learning about the tourism industry and its economic impact, as well as touring sever- al Dover attractions was the focus of Leader- ship Central Delaware’s field trip day on Dec 7th. The day started at the Air Mobility Com- mand Museum where Wendie Vestfall, Exec- utive Director for Kent County Tourism, ex- plained the new marketing slogan “Quaint Villages” and the affect that tourism has on so many local businesses. The class then watched a video and learned a lot about the Tourism office and how local events are mar- keted. The website https://www.visitdela- warevillages.com/ is very user friendly and the staff is helpful and ready to help market local events via shared links. The group continued the morning with a tour of the Delaware State Archives, where we saw the newly opened World War II exhib- it and silver display from the USS Delaware. Tom Summers, Manager of Public and Out- reach Services, explained the many programs and resources available there. Colin Adams-Toomey, Interpretive Pro- grams Manager of First State Heritage Park, provided a walking tour of The Green. There were stops at the site of the Golden Fleece Tavern, the home where the first “murder by mail” took place, and the John Bell House.
