Meanwhile, the long-term operation and maintenance of a PV system needs solar radiation information as a reference for system performance evaluation. Obtaining solar radiation information through the installation of irradiation monitoring stations is often very costly, and the cost of sustaining the reliability of the monitoring system, Internet stability and subsequent operation and maintenance can often be alarming. Therefore, the establishment of a solar radiation estimation model can reduce the installation of monitoring stations and decrease the cost of obtaining solar radiation information. In this study, we use an inverse distance weighting algorithm to establish the solar radiation estimation model. The model was built by obtaining information from 20 solar radiation monitoring stations in central and southern Taiwan, and field verification was implemented at Yuan Chang Township town hall and the Tainan Liujia campus.

  • Informed Largely by the Language of Painting, and Constructed
Informed largely by the language of painting, and constructed through traditional folk method of rag rug hooking used by her grandmother, Aanrud's work is at once a slowly stitched drawing and a labyrinthine map of the act of thinking. "Time becomes tactile, ticked up in a stitch. I set about a familiar rhythm where my scurrying mind can find rest through work. A line is cut, felt, held and pulled through a grid of burlap. A figure forms from this slow draw—conjured from below the surface. It is not quite me, but maybe in the curve of an arm, length of hand, or tilt of cheek. I keep a side eye on this labyrinthine nude, mostly seeing through feeling— the way one does in the dark when navigating the soft sculpture of a person’s body. My hands hold onto this tangle of tapestry and I study the faces I’ve made, “Hey, I’ve seen that look before!” Perhaps these women are versions of me—emotional states given physical form. They are allegories that depict certain dualities —at once placid and anxious, beautiful and treacherous." Liv Aanrud 2018 Liv Aanrud earned a B.F.A with a painting emphasis at the University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire in 2001. She was awarded a full scholarship and teaching fellowship at Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University, where she received her M.F.A in 2011. She has taught at ARTworks, teaching mixed media classes to at risk teen girls, and at Santa Barbara City College. Currently she is a teaching fellow at the Armory Center for the Arts in Pasadena.

Tongue-Tied Taiwan: Linguistic Diversity and Imagined Identities at the Crossroads of Colonial East Asia Yu-Chen Eathan Lai This thesis has been submitted on this day of April 15, 2018 in partial fulfillment of the degree requirements for the NYU Global Liberal Studies Bachelor of Arts degree. 1 Yu-Chen Eathan Lai, “Tongue-Tied Taiwan: Linguistic Diversity and Imagined Identities at the Crossroads of Colonial East Asia,” Undergraduate Thesis, New York University, 2018. A history of repeated colonization and foreign occupation created in Taiwan a severe language gap spanning three generations, and left its people in an anxious search for the island’s “linguistic” and “national” identity. Taiwanese speakers of indigenous Austronesian languages and Chinese dialects such as Hokkien and Hakka have historically endured the imposition of two different national languages: Japanese since 1895 and Mandarin since 1945. In this project, I draw on anthropological perspectives and media analysis to understand the ideologies and symbols vested upon different languages and codes that still circulate within different media today. My research primarily investigates an autoethnographic report on a family history, several museum and gallery exhibits, as well as two different documentaries, all centered on Hokkien speakers in Taiwan. I argue that a future generation’s narrative construction of an authentic Taiwanese identity must be rooted in the island’s past and present reality of linguistic and cultural diversity.
