The Division of Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children - Nemours Children’s Clinic

The Division of Urology offers comprehensive evaluation and treatment for infants, children, and adolescents who have urologic disorders ranging from the simple to the complex. Comprised of a team of specialty-trained pediatric urologists, the division evaluates and treats conditions such as hydronephrosis, stones, urinary tract infections, vesicoureteral reflux, urinary tract obstruction, and neurogenic bladder. The Division also treats genital abnormalities such as hypospadias, undescended testes, phimosis, and hydrocele.

T. Ernesto Figueroa, MD, is Chief, Division of Urology at duPont Hospital for Children and Clinical Associate Professor of Urology at Thomas Jefferson University. He is a graduate of Tulane University in New Orleans, where he also completed his residency in urology. He served his fellowship in pediatric urology at Children's Hospital of Michigan. Dr. Figueroa is certified by the American Board of Urology, with subspecialty certification in Pediatric Urology, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, American College of Surgeons, and Society for Pediatric Urology. His clinical interests are: neurogenic bladder, stone disease, laparoscopy, undescended testes, hypospadias, congenital genital anomalies, vesicoureteral reflux, and urinary tract infections and voiding disorders in childhood.

Julia Spencer Barthold, MD, is a pediatric urologist, Associate Chief and Director of Research, Director of the Pediatric Urology Fellowship Program, and Associate Professor of Urology at Thomas Jefferson University. She is a graduate of Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois, where she also completed her residency in urology. She completed a fellowship in pediatric urology at Children's Hospital of Michigan and as an American Foundation for Research Scholar at Cornell University Medical College. She is certified by the American Board of Urology. Dr. Barthold's clinical and research work in the area of undescended testis was recently part of a $10 million NIH grant awarded to Nemours. Her clinical interests are cryptorchidism, genital anomalies and genitourinary tract reconstruction.

Ahmad Bani-Hani, MD, is a pediatric urologist at duPont Hospital for Children. Dr. Bani-Hani completed his urology residency at the Mayo Clinic and a fellowship in pediatric urology at the Riley Children’s Hospital at the University of Indiana. Dr. Bani-Hani’s interests expand the entire breath of pediatric urology, and specifically, in the area of urinary tract reconstruction, neurogenic bladder, the use of intestinal segments for urinary tract reconstruction, endourology and stone disease.

Ricardo Gonzalez, MD, is a pediatric urologist and a Professor of Urology at Thomas Jefferson University. He is a graduate of Facultad de Medicina, University of Buenos Aires in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He completed his residency in general surgery at Hospital Militar Central in Buenos Aires and served a fellowship in urologic surgery at the University of Minnesota. He is certified by the American Board of Urology. His clinical interests are: complex urogenital reconstruction, fetal urological surgery, neurogenic bladder and myelomeningocele, artificial urinary sphincter and laparoscopic surgery. Dr. Gonzalez is a recipient of the European Society for Pediatric Urology's Medal of Honor, which recognized his outstanding contributions on an international level to the field of pediatric urology. Dr. Gonzalez is currently a consultant for the Division of Pediatric Urology.

Susan P. Myers, CURN, MSN, FNP, is a nurse practitioner at duPont Hospital for Children. She earned her bachelor's degree in Political Science from Syracuse University, and a master's degree in nursing from Widener University. She has an FNP certification from the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.

Amanda Mandel RN, MS, CPNP, is a nurse practitioner at duPont Hospital for Children. She received her bachelor's degree in nursing at Salve Regina University, Newport, RI and a master's degree in pediatric nursing at Emory University, Atlanta, GA. Her areas of special interest include the Bladder Clinic.
