1. Message from the board President and the Executive Director

In Nepal, emerging issues regarding rights of so-called Dalit people are in need to be properly addressed. Dalit Welfare Organization (DWO) has been actively involved in addressing these issues. The main aim of DWO is to create discrimination free justifiable society through advocacy and development process. It has been striving to protect civil and political rights of people of under- privileged communities raising voice against caste and gender-based violation since 1994. It has 25 years working experience of establishing just society. It has also been executing and implementing different projects and programs in collaboration with government, I/NGOs and members in fiscal year 2075/76. It is a matter of great pleasure for DWO team to present its annual report for fiscal year 2075/76. This annual report includes all activities and achievements of Dalit Welfare Organization as the result of the coordination and collaboration among staffs, funding agencies and other government agencies. Amidst various challenges, DWO has been able to raise issues of Dalits and other vulnerable communities at local, national and even at international level and has become successful with its interventions. Its targeted people are women, youth and children those who are socially excluded community. Thus, this annual report is the immediate outcomes of the activities conducted in FY 2075/76. We would like to pay our sincere gratitude to all supporters who believed in us and supported us. We have been able to get continuous support from donors, national and international I/NGOs, governmental agencies, political parties, civil society organizations and relevant stakeholders and individuals too. This organization looks forward to seeking more encouragement in future.

3. Introduction of DWO

Dalit Welfare Organization (DWO), a non-governmental organization was established in 16th September 1994 with the vision of establishing 1. DWO is working with the vulnerable groups of Nepal i.e. so-called Dalit people continuously working to ensure the rights and integrated development programs. It has 25 years of working experience in Nepal to establish and ensure a justifiable society by eliminating caste-based discrimination and untouchability bad custom. The organization prioritizes on providing opportunity in all sectors by influencing and implementing government policy to protect rights of Dalits and help them to survive dignified life where they are equally treated in all socio-economical, educational and political sectors. Its primary target groups are women, youth and children of vulnerable communities especially who are Dalit and marginalized. DWO’s programs stretch across all Nepal with active funded programs of different funding agencies, INGOs and support of the government. It consists of 56 district chapters engaging more than 16000 general members, around 120 skilled staffs, 200 volunteers at regional/ provincial and center level board committee members all over the country with active participation of women employees. It has been working with two main approaches to empower the marginalized community: • Right based advocacy • Development of programs and • Media advocacy.

DWO is the first non-government organization to broadcast radio program to address dalit issues and to conduct awareness through media advocacy since 1995. DWO owns a radio station named 'Radio Pratibodh FM 102.3MHz' in . Due to DWO's long and systematic advocacy for “Caste-based Discrimination and Untouchability (Offence and punishment) Act 2011, discourse on UPR, MDGs and SDGs, CERD and CESCR regularly, it has been accorded with media member of HSEB scholarship program, District Child welfare committee and so on by Nepal Government. DWO submitted alternative report to the UN in 1995 on CERD and was awarded by 'UNICEF award 2013'. It has also established Youth Employment Fund and provided entrepreneurship support to youth. 6. DWO's Thematic Areas and Activities

6.3 Economic Empowerment
