We are pleased to share this Stallion Directory and all the benefits that come with choosing to breed in New York State. It’s hard to imagine a more outstanding showing by New York-bred horses last year. New York Sire Stakes stars showed their skill on the state’s seven harness tracks and across the country. Four Dan Patch divisional M. Kelly Young champions all competed in the Sire Stakes program—two winning the Executive Director Empire Breeders Classic and two remaining undefeated in their freshman campaigns. Almost a quarter of all the horses competing in the Breeders Crown Finals in October were bred in New York—26 of the 107 horses in 12 events. Our horses stole titles in the Hambletonian, Yonkers Trot, and Kentucky Futurity—a New York-bred Trotting Triple Crown—and in the Meadowlands Pace, Little Brown Jug and many other open stakes. They also toppled track and world records in a season to remember. But a successful Sire Stakes program doesn’t just produce big names on the biggest stages, it means you can earn big bucks at home, too. That’s just what our horses did in 2018: a total of 26 horses earned more than $100,000 in Sire Stakes action alone! The highest single earner, sophomore pacing filly Wisdom Tree, took home $288,583 in Sire Stakes purses for her connections. In the Excelsior Series, the top earner was 2-year-old trotting filly Lifetime Credit, who bankrolled $65,000 in her series starts. Inside this book you will find 42 stallions, 7 of them new in 2019. Breeders who choose New York not only have the backing of a strong state-bred program when marketing their yearlings, but those with resident mares have the potential for Breeders Award earnings when their youngsters perform well on the track. More than $14.2 million was paid out in stakes purses and $1 million in Breeders Awards in 2018. Enjoy exploring all New York has to offer and we wish you all the best in your breeding and racing endeavors this year. 5 Industry Organizations Agriculture & New York State Horse Breeding Morrisville College REGIONAL HORSEMAN ASSOCIATIONS Development Fund Equine Institute Western New York 1 Broadway Center Marshall Hall Harness Horseman’s Association Schenectady, New York 12305 Morrisville, NY 13408 PO Box 730 Tel: 518-388-0178 Tel: 315-684-6355 Batavia, NY 14021 www.nysirestakes.com Fax: 315-684-6621 Buffalo Tel: 716-648-3577 Cornell Equine Hospital/Cornell University [email protected] Batavia Tel: 585-345-9846 College of Veterinary Medicine www.morrisvillesale.com [email protected] Ithaca, NY 14853-6401 New York State President: Bruce Tubin Tel: 607-253-3100 Gaming Commission Monticello Harness Email: [email protected] 1 Broadway Center Horseman’s Association www.vet.cornell.edu/hospital Schenectady, New York 12305 204 Route 17B, PO Box 1436 Harness Horse Breeders of Tel: 518-388-3300 Monticello, NY 12701 New York State, Inc.
