OBITUARY REFERENCE
HON. SPEAKER: Hon. Members, I have to inform the House about the sad demise of our colleague Shri Gopinath Rao Munde. Shri Gopinath Rao Munde was a member elected to Sixteenth Lok Sabha from Beed Parliamentary Constituency of Maharashtra. Shri Munde was the Union Minister of Rural Development; Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water & Sanitation. He was also a member of Fifteenth Lok Sabha. An active Parliamentarian with a penchant for parliamentary practices and procedures, Shri Munde was a member and Chairman of Committee on Public Accounts and Chairman of Committee on Chemicals & Fertilizers. He also served as member of the Business Advisory Committee; Committee on Finance; General Purposes Committee; Committee of Privileges and Committee on Ethics. During his long and illustrious public life spanning over a period of three decades Shri Munde served the people with commitment and zeal in various capacities. He worked for the welfare of the downtrodden and farmers. Shri Munde was a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly for five terms from 1980 to 1985 and 1990 to 2009. He was the Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra Legislative Assembly from 1992 to 1995 and served as the Deputy Chief Minister in the Government of Maharashtra from 1995 to 1999. Shri Gopinath Rao Munde passed away on 3 June, 2014 in Delhi at the age of 64 under tragic circumstances. We deeply mourn the loss of Shri Munde, a man of masses and I am sure the House would join me in conveying our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. 04.06.2014 29
