International Annual Conference and General Assembly of Climate Alliance Perugia, 1414----1616 April 2010
Welcome to PerugiaPerugia!!!!
With the disappointing Copenhagen Summit behind us, one fact is clear: the fight against climate change will not be won without the crucial contribution of towns, cities, provinces and regions. They have been forerunners in the past and will continue to play a central role in the post 2012 treaty hopefully agreed upon in December in Mexico.
The International Climate Alliance Conference Perugia 2010 “Local Solutions for Change,” on April 14 th through 16th, will be an important occasion to together define climate strategies for the next decades. It is therefore with great pleasure, and with the firm intent to contribute to our common effort to save the climate, that the Region of Umbria , the Province of Perugia and the City of Perugia invite you to participate in the International Climate Conference Perugia 2010.
We have joined forces with a group of some of the most important and significant institutions in the area to welcome our Italian and European guests. Our joint commitment to this conference and to the cause of climate protection will send a strong signal in supporting the major collaborative commitment that will be necessary to address the huge tasks before us. We await you in Perugia, to join with us in discussing the most advanced strategies and solutions in our joint effort to confront and combat climate change.
Wladimiro Boccali Marco Vinicio Guasticchi Maria Rita Lorenzetti Mayor of Perugia President Province of Perugia President Region of Umbria

LeLeLetLe t us jointly implement the Solutions for Change!
2010 marks 20 years of Climate Alliance! Currently, more than 1,500 member cities and municipalities in our network have committed to the ambitious Climate Alliance target and are developing and implementing the “Local Solutions for Change”. The members have made this commitment not only for the protection of the global climate, but also for local economy and welfare in the current and expected times of energy crisis. The challenge before us is to embark, in accordance with the other important actors, towards energy autonomy and a post petrol system of mobility, moving from scattered pilot projects to mainstreamed policies.
The same is true on a global scale: The cooperation with the indigenous peoples – self evident for Climate Alliance – has more and more become a cornerstone in the road map process from Bali to Copenhagen. The protection of the rainforests is crucial to stabilise greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere and to preserve biodiversity. Indigenous peoples are not only the first victims of climate change, but are also impor tant partners in developing solutions. Perugia 2010 is the time to celebrate Climate Alliance’s first 20 years and the successes achieved, and is also the time to take off – bound and determined – for even more ambitious steps towards a sustainable energy future. These steps can be far reaching, if undertaken together with different levels of government. We thank the three hosts of our Annual Conference 2010, for acting as the concrete proof of this cooperation to implement coherent and effective climate action.
