View of completed model Side view ROK Hwaseong Fortress The Hwaseong Fortress was completed in 1796 when Jeongjo the 22nd king of the Dynasty had dreamed of transferring the capital city, and is located in -Si, in . Although the dream of transferring of the capital city melted away due to an early death of Chong-jo, the remaining fortress is evaluated as the masterpiece of the Korean fortress architecture. Both rocks and bricks are used in constructing the fortress surrounded by 7 meter high and 5 kilometer long walls. It is a remarkable point that the perfect record of the construction schedule, quantity of the materials, names of the laborers and other details are preserved. It was registered as the world cultural heritage in 1997. The paper craft models after the “Janganmun”, the north gateway of the Hwaseong Fortress. “Jangan” connotes the “capital city” and it was the formal gateway for the kings.
