Are your spiritual batteries drained from the battles of 2020? 2020 has been a challenging year for a lot of people. And as we have entered 2021, I am so glad you have decided to participate in our extended time of prayer, fasting and personal devotion. My hope is that this time of prayer and fasting will refresh us personally but also our church as we seek His blessing and direction. I believe as we come together, fully submitted to God in prayer, He will display both His person and His power in extraordinary ways. I also believe that as we pray and fast, the Holy Spirit will give us a spiritual jumpstart for 2021. I pray that you will experience the presence and power of God in an extraordinary way as you commit yourself to Him over the next 21 days. May you be closer to God than ever before as you seek Him first. As you prepare for the next 21 days, think about why you are fasting. Are you praying for: • Spiritual renewal? • Guidance? • Healing? • Special grace to handle a difficult situation? • A major decision? Ask the Holy Spirit to clarify His leading and objectives for your Spiritual Awakening fast. This will enable you to pray more specifically and strategically. Think about the top two or three most pressing issues on your heart and zone in on those with God. Make time to pray daily. Have that place and time where you can seek Him every day. If you don’t plan to pray, then you won’t pray. Let God recharge your prayer life in 2021. Blessings! Pastor Ras WCC 21 DAYS OF PRAYER AND FASTING 2021 3 HOW TO USE THIS GUIDE This booklet is designed to guide us individually and corporately through our 21 days of prayer. Beyond that it will also give you some tools for continuing into prayer from day 22 and beyond. Each day of this booklet will give you a Scripture, as well as some thoughts around that passage, additional scriptures and prayer. This is a starting point; we don’t have to follow a specific formula to talk with God but practicing different ways to pray can help us find deeper purpose and connection to Him through our prayer time. The goal of using this guide is not to add pressure or overwhelm you. The goal is simply to get comfortable with talking to God. To make your prayer time even more meaningful, you can write notes and prayer requests and play worship music. The important step is committing to regularly entering God’s presence through prayer. The heart of this guide is to help you find a new level of purpose, effectiveness, and enjoyment in your prayer life. WHAT IS PRAYER: The most basic definition of prayer is “talking to God.” Prayer is not meditation or passive reflection; it is direct address to God. It is the communication of the human soul with the Lord who created the soul. Paul wrote, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6–7 NIV). Don't worry about anything? Yes, God wants us to talk with Him about everything. How often should we pray? The biblical answer is “pray without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5:17 NKJV). This does not mean, eyes closed and hands together. Prayer can be audible or silent, private or public, formal or informal. You can pray any time of day, whilst doing chores, working, resting, during family time or alone time. We should keep a running conversation going with God all day long. Eyes open or closed, out loud or in our hearts, we can be creating a continual dialogue with God. Your prayer life is not measured in minutes. Prayer is a lifestyle. Prayer is a constant two- way communication with God. There is really no special formula for how to pray. We should just do it. We can pray under any and all circumstances. Prayer develops our relationship with God and demonstrates our trust and utter dependence upon Him. WHY FAST? The goal of fasting is to draw nearer to God. Biblical fasting always has to do with eliminating distractions for a spiritual purpose; it hits the reset button of our soul and renews us from the inside out. Fasting allows us to create space in our minds and hearts for more of God’s presence. 4 WCC 21 DAYS OF PRAYER AND FASTING 2021 Fasting is one of the oldest and most prevalent spiritual practices in the Bible. Great leaders in the Bible fasted routinely, including Moses, David, Jeremiah, Isaiah, John the Baptist, Jesus and the disciples. Jesus expects that we will fast regularly. In Matthew 6:16, Jesus addresses fasting specifically when he tells the disciples, “When you fast…” Notice Jesus says “when” not “if.” Jesus assumes that we will fast. Though fasting is assumed, it is not required. We don’t have to fast. We get to fast. Like all intentional spiritual practices, fasting should not be legalistic – we are not earning approval from God through fasting. TYPES OF FASTS: Biblical fasting almost always concerns food. Since the purpose of fasting is to focus on God, to humble ourselves and to remind ourselves that we are sustained by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God, then the task in fasting is connecting our “going without” to “hungering for God.” This takes time, focus and prayer in itself. Please do not expect to be an “expert” at fasting right away. Fasting is a discipline that can take a very long time to understand well. Also, do not let this fact deter you or intimidate you. Here are several different ways you can practice fasting. Here are some examples: Complete Fast: In this type of fast, you drink only liquids, typically water with light juices as an option. Start slowly. Begin with fasting for only a part of a day (lunch, or lunch and dinner). Do this for one day a week, or perhaps three days a week. You determine the timing and duration. Take a step of faith. Fasting is risky and involves our faith. Selective Fast: This type of fast involves removing certain elements from your diet. One example of a selective fast is the Daniel Fast, during which you remove meat, sweets, and bread from your diet and consume water and juice for fluids and fruits and vegetables for food. Partial Fast: This fast is sometimes called the “Jewish Fast” and involves abstaining from eating any type of food in the morning and afternoon. This can either correlate to specific times of the day, such as 6:00 am to 3:00 pm, or from sun-up to sundown. Non-Food Fast: This fast is a great option if you do not have much experience fasting food, have health issues that prevent you from fasting food, or if you wish to refocus certain areas of your life that are out of balance. For example, you might choose to stop using social media or watching television for the duration of the fast and then carefully bring that element back into your life in healthy doses at the conclusion of the fast. IF YOU HAVE ANY HEALTH CONDITIONS OR ARE CONCERNED ABOUT FOOD FASTING THEN YOU SHOULD CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR OR COMMIT TO A NON- FOOD FAST. WCC 21 DAYS OF PRAYER AND FASTING 2021 5 AS WE BEGIN As we begin our 21 days of prayer and fasting, there are some things that you might find helpful to do. 01: SET SOME GOALS What would you like to see God do in these 21 days? Begin with clear personal goals, church goals, breakthrough goals. Be specific. • Why are you fasting? • Is there something or some specific you are praying for? • Do you need direction, healing, restoration of your marriage or resolution of family issues? • Are you facing difficulties? Pray and ask the Holy Spirit for guidance. 02: FEAST ON THE WORD OF GOD Prayer and fasting is ultimately an expression of humility and dependence on God. It is about focusing specifically for the next 21 days on communicating with God and also replacing the daily intake of food, entertainment and human contact with focused times of prayer, spending time feeding on the Word of God and spiritual listening. Use this guide to help you, go on the Bible app and choose a reading plan, choose a book of the Bible and read it over the next 21 days.

  • It Has Been Said That It Only Takes 21 Days to Form A
21 Days of Prayer and Fasting - Devotional It has been said that it only takes 21 days to form a “habit.” A habit is a pattern of behavior that has been picked up and occurs automatically, often called and “addiction.” It is our prayer that over the next 21 days, through reading God’s Word, spending time with Him, & applying His truth to your life, that you will develop a spiritual addiction to His presence. That it would become a habit for you to spend time with God daily. Through this devotional, and God working through His spirit within you- may you always have a spiritual hunger for more of Christ and may you be challenged to put your faith in action daily. We are praying for you! Day 1 One man challenged another to an all-day wood chopping contest. The challenger worked very hard, stopping only for a brief lunch break. The other man had a restful lunch and took several breaks during the day. At the end of the day, the challenger was surprised and annoyed to find that the other fellow had chopped substantially more wood than he had. "I don't get it," he said. "Every time I checked, you were taking a rest, yet you chopped more wood than I did." "But you didn't notice," said the winning woodsman, "that I was sharpening my ax when I sat down to rest." (Source unknown) If you're like me, sometimes it seems that dealing with the world is like chopping wood. It's hard work, it takes time and concentration, and in the end you never get as far as you thought you would.

  • Some Ideas for Creative Prayer Some Ideas for Creative Prayer
[ Workshop: Creative Prayer with children ] Daniel Jones Youth & Childrens Adviser Diocese of Bristol Thanks to: Jane Whitcombe Childrens Adviser for the Diocese of Bath & Wells Some ideas for creative prayer Some ideas for creative prayer Thank you, sorry, please - teaspoon prayers Perhaps the most simple way of structuring a prayer is to use the three words thank you, sorry, please. Have a short time of chat and discussion focusing on what the group might want to say to God using these three words. Finally have a short time of open prayer or ask a leader to weave together all the topics mentioned, in a closing prayer. TSP, the first letters of Thank you, Sorry, Please, remind us of the recipe book abbreviation for teaspoon. It can be helpful to give younger children a plastic teaspoon to take home to remind them of these three basic categories for prayer. Three envelopes Some groups start out by being rather shy about praying out loud. In this case why not pin up three envelopes labelled Thank you Sorry and Please and let group members write their prayers on slips of paper and put them in the appropriate envelope. Dont forget to check the envelopes from time to time to let everyone share in the joy of the thank you prayers and to find out how the please prayers have been answered. An opening prayer As we gather together Lord, help us to concentrate on you As we put aside the things that distract us Lord, help us to concentrate on you As we leave behind the things that worry us Lord, help us to concentrate on you As we forget about ourselves Lord, help us to concentrate on you As we worship you with songs of praise Lord, help us to concentrate on you As we listen to stories from your Word Lord, help us to concentrate on you As we hear your teaching Lord, help us to concentrate on you Prayer Pauses Many people find it helpful when prayers that are led from the front include short pauses for private prayer.

  • 10 Ways to Prevail in Prayer Pastor Shane Idleman 7/22/2018
10 Ways to Prevail in Prayer Pastor Shane Idleman 7/22/2018 I’m going to talk about a very important topic this morning. The title is “10 Ways to Prevail in Prayer.” This morning I was reminded—I came up here and actually wrote it down—we have worship in the morning. We turn worship on around 6 am in the morning. We have worship on—loud, no lights really, and we’re just worshiping God for about an hour to an hour and a half, till around 7:30 am). God reminded me this morning that this is one of the most important points, and I forgot it—when I say that I mean I was prompted to write this down—but to prevail in prayer we must add worship to our daily lives. Worship is where you clear out the junk. Worship is when you get the heart right. It’s where you repent. It’s when you trust God for things. And I’ve noticed that sometimes it takes three or four songs, or five songs, until you’re finally getting that heart more tender to hear from God. So my encouragement is to be here. Try to be here at 6:30 in the morning on Sundays. I know it’s difficult, but it’s usually the flesh that is prevailing, right? Too tired, want to sleep, want to eat, want to get ready, do my hair—all those things. Oh, I don’t have enough time. Just come, and you will not be disappointed.

  • SURF MUSIC by Geoffrey Himes
SURF MUSIC By Geoffrey Himes It often seems that the United States is a pool table that has been tilted so all its hopes and dreams roll to the west. Whenever Americans want a new and better life, they head toward the setting sun. Whether it was the white-canvas covered wagons of the 1850s, the rusty Okie jalopies of the 1930s or the painted hippie vans of the 1960s, the direction is always westward—and eventually they collect in the pool table’s corner pocket known as Southern California. When Chuck Berry went chasing after his imagined utopia in the song “Promised Land," where did he end up? Los Angeles. Thousands of Hollywood movies had advertised Southern California as a nirvana of palm trees, sunshine, beautiful girls and beautiful boys, convincing folks from Oklahoma, Kansas and Ohio to pack up and move to the coast. By the end of the 1950s, the area around L.A. was full of almost as many transplanted Midwesterners as native Californians. The natives knew the region was no utopia, but the first and second-generation immigrants, these strangers in paradise, still clung to the notion of America’s western edge as the place where their dreams might come true. The teens and twentysomethings in these families—too young and too new to the West Coast to be disillusioned— turned that utopian impulse into a new kind of rock'n'roll: surf music. Brian, Dennis and Carl Wilson, whose father and mother had moved to California from Kansas and Minnesota respectively, formed the Beach Boys.

Prayer brings spirituality, power and vitality to a church. Prayer is to be done with other elements of church growth. Prayer has a universal and unique character because no growth is possible without prayer even though other elements are performed well. The two elements for church growth, personal and programs, are discussed in their relationship with prayer. The personal element includes pastors and laymen praying about their specific positions of serving. The program element of prayer provides something like an initial explosion in such programs as worship, evangelism, discipleship training and the like. To be successful these must be accompanied by prayer. Church growth is the natural outcome if the church prays and uses the other elements for church growth. The writer supported the hypothesis by a questionnaire to the pastors of churches that were growing and churches that were stagnate (or growing at a very low level). The questionnaire asked the dynamics between the elements of church growth and prayer. He suggested that an the church members must pray to have a continuously growing church, and for this, various kinds of prayer meetings should be developed and managed.

A lot is riding on this set - a deep dive into their catalogue spanning their 10-year history. It's a new dawn for "America's Band". After four years of chaos dogged by declining record sales, lawsuits, mental breakdowns and worst of ail - irrelevance, this is their moment.
