U.S. Representative Jason Crow

Jason Crow represents Colorado’s 6th Congressional District. Elected in 2018, Jason is the first Democrat to ever represent the district in Congress. In his first year in office, Jason proved himself a leader tackling gun violence, climate change, and immigration. Jason “...quickly emerged in the Democratic caucus as a leading voice on national security,” and was named one of the seven House impeachment managers in the Senate trial against President Trump in January 2020.

Growing up, Jason worked construction and joined the National Guard to help pay his way through college. In the wake of 9/11, he joined the Army and served three combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, earning a Bronze Star for his actions in the invasion of Iraq. Jason is a member of the Armed Services and Small Business Committees and serves as the Vice-Chair of the Gun Violence Prevention Task Force and the National Security Task Force.

Jason lives in Aurora with his wife Deserai, an environmental policy professor at the University of Colorado, and their two young children.

Hosted by Utah Representative Jennifer Dailey-Provost

Rep. Dailey-Provost works to serve HD24 in the Utah House Representatives and is pursuing her PhD in Public Health at the University of Utah. Her work in healthcare and public health advocacy motivated her run to serve in elected office.

Rep. Dailey-Provost is a longtime advocate for Utah’s disenfranchised populations, working for social justice in health care, improving environmental quality, protecting children, and fighting for equal rights for all.

Rep. Dailey-Provost lives in Capitol Hill with her husband Scott and three daughters. Rep. Dailey-Provost and her family love the quality of life that Utah offers and take advantage of the incredible access to the outdoors whenever possible. She is most passionate about skiing and running, but Rep. Dailey-Provost also loves to hike, bike, and snowshoe as often as possible.

Eva Lopez: Chair

Eva Lopez is the proud daughter of Mexican immigrant farm workers. She is a first generation professional that currently works at the Mayor’s Office as a Community Liaison. She currently serves as Vice Chair of the Utah State Hispanic Caucus and previously served as Secretary of the Utah Democratic Women’s Caucus. She has worked on several political campaigns and ballot initiatives. She is also community organizer in the latino/x, immigrant and LGBTQ+ communities.

She believes we have an opportunity to use our resources strategically to help maintain the strength and infrastructure of the SLCo party and engage our volunteers, candidates and donors. Eva is interested in serving her community and expanding on the strengths of our voterbase. With SLCo’s voters turning out in higher numbers, and new opportunities to elect strong Democratic candidates, Eva is ready to hit the ground running as she regularly does in her free time as a wingback player for the Utah Falconz football team.

Deborah Gatrell: First Vice Chair

Deborah Gatrell is a down-to-earth problem-solver with 21 years of military service and 12 years of work in the classroom as a Social Studies teacher. She has ten years’ involvement with the party as a delegate, county Veterans Caucus chair, state Veterans Caucus chair, and as candidate for Salt Lake County Council District 2 in 2020.

Deborah is a Blackhawk pilot in the National Guard and chairs her department at school. She is a National Board Certified Teacher and supports other teachers working towards certification through work with the Utah National Board Coalition and teaching a course through SLCC. Thanks to her training as a Utah Teacher Fellow, Deborah is an effective advocate for education issues and has been interviewed and published dozens of times over the past three years.

Growing up in a military family, Deborah brings a global perspective to the questions of the day. She has deployed overseas and isn’t afraid to do what’s right.

She plans to use her skills to build on lessons learned form Covid, capturing efficiencies and clarifying roles, responsibilities, and relationships, so we can strengthen our strategic vision and elect more quality Democrats. Vote Deborah for 1st Vice Chair!

Angela Charles: Second Vice Chair

Since becoming chair of the Salt Lake County Black Democrats, I have been fortunate enough to learn a lot about organizing and what that looks like in Salt Lake County. From canvassing in West Jordan to West Valley, my biggest takeaway has been that voters of color aren’t a monolith. We can’t assume that because someone is a person of color, they will vote for the Democratic candidate. We must go into these neighborhoods and organize and talk to these people all year round, not just when it’s time to get their votes. I want to help The Salt Lake County Democratic Party build a more diverse voting block. Cooperating with our issues and identity caucuses, we can make this a reality. That is why I am running for Second Vice-Chair for the Salt Lake County Democratic Party.

Caren Burns: Secretary

Caren Burns is excited for the opportunity to serve as the Secretary on the Executive Committee for the Salt Lake County Democrats. Previously, she has served as a House District Chair and has volunteered for two Democratic political campaigns. Currently, Caren is the Chair of the Education Caucus for the Salt Lake County Democrats and is working as a member of the Granite Education Association Political Action Committee. Besides working with the Democratic Party, she is a 2nd Grade teacher in the Granite School District, has founded a Social Justice Committee with Granite Education Association, and is a Teacher Fellow with the Hope Street Group. She is passionate about Social Justice and Racial Equity work in and out of education and is hoping to bring a stronger voice for marginalized communities in Salt Lake County to the table.

Jeff Hatch: Treasurer

The details of my background are on the Salt Lake County Democratic Party website under Executive Committee. My career in management and as Chief Financial Officer for a private business in radio/Television/newspaper/real estate honed my accounting and financial skills and led to my winning the Salt Lake County Auditor position in 2006. I became County Democratic Party Treasurer in November 2019 in a special election of the County Central Committee. I have found the position and working with a great group of dedicated activists on the Executive Committee very productive and enjoyable. While running the Party organization the last 12 months has been difficult, our collective patience and creativity helped us pull together and get the job done.

We have a lot to do now to take advantage of record new voter registrations and highest- ever voter turnout in 2020. I look forward to working with the new members on the Executive Committee and giving our Executive Director, Bonnie Billings, the help she needs with accounting and reporting financial results.

Since all of these races are uncontested, we will be confirming this slate as a voice vote of Salt Lake County Democratic Party delegates at the main session of the 2021 Organizing Convention on Saturday, April 17, 2021. Call to Order will be at 10:00 a.m.

You MUST register in advance to obtain the virtual meeting information.
