Town Planning Cathal Brugha Street, Lot 1 and Marlborough Street, Lot 2 are located in the Local Authority Borough of Dublin City Council. The properties are zoned ‘Z5’ – City Centre – To consolidate and facilitate the development of the central area, and to identify, reinforce, and strengthen and protect its civic design, character and dignity under the Dublin City Development Plan 2016 – 2022. Permitted uses to include, but not limited to hotel, office, residential, public house and restaurant. History DIT Cathal Brugha Street, Lot 1 has existed in its current location since 1941. There have been many changes in the seventy seven years since it was officially opened. In 1941, St. Mary’s College of Domestic Science (now Cathal Brugha Street) was established as an integral element of the State’s infrastructure for the education of young females. In 1944 Ireland’s first Diploma in Dietetics course was designed and delivered in the College. In 1951 the College focused its’ attention on the education and training required for the growing Irish tourist industry. Also in 1951 the Department of Hotel and Catering was established and a two-year Diploma in Hotel and Catering Management for males and females was offered in 1952, which subsequently developed into a three-year full-time Diploma in Hotel Management in 1961. Around this time St. Mary’s College of Domestic Science was renamed the College of Catering. In 1973 the Department of Home Sciences emerged offering an array of courses in Child Care and Social Studies in addition to the very popular Home Management Course. The School of Food Science and Environmental Health was formally established in the College in 1982. Student numbers continued to grow and with the College running out of space the extension on Marlborough Street, Lot 2 was constructed to provide modern laboratory facilities for the increasingly technical food science and environmental science disciplines. The College of Catering, which recently celebrated its 75th anniversary, was one of six colleges in Dublin City Centre, which collectively became the Dublin Institute of Technology in 1992. DIT restructured, the building became the main centre for the Faculty of Tourism and Food, which also saw a move of the School of Home and Social Sciences to the Faculty of Applied Arts.
