Brief Industrial Profile of

1. General Characteristics of the District

1.1 Location & Geographical Area .

• Etah is located at 27°38 ′N 78°40 ′E27.63°N 78.67°E . It has an average elevation of 170 metres (557 feet). • Etah's nearest district and surrounded by , , , , Mahamaya Nagar , Kashiram nagar . • Previously Kashiram nagar was a part of district ETAH . • The primary occupation of the people of the district is agriculture. The area is situated between Ganga and (Doaab) which is highly fertile land (Alluvial soil ). The farmers are taking even three crops in a year. The water for irrigation is available round the year. • Etah is a developing city. It is the district headquarters since the British times. National Highway 91 (NH 91 ) passes through city Etah. The Padav maidan (open field) is the field used for the army during army movements. Every Year this field is use for Ram-Lila at Dussehra in month September and October and for Exhibitions in month from December to February. Only these are the two events in a year when public of district ETAH can enjoy the events like Kavisammelan, Dance competition and Fair.

1.2 Topography

In general the district exhibits a flat topography with few gentle undulations. The drainage system of the district is controlled by the river Ganga and its tributaries namely Kali, Is an, Burhi Ganga Arind and Bargash. The Kali nadi is perennial and the remaining tributaries are ephemeral. Etah district fall under the category of agricultural dominated district occupying mainly the area between the Ganga and Kali river.

About 70% irrigation potential of the district depend mainly upon ground water resources but a limited area also receive the surface water irrigation mainly through Lower Ganga canal and Upper Ganga canal. The lower Ganga canal bifurcates into two branches namely Bewar and Bhognipur branch. The maximum beneficiary of having surface water irrigation in the district is block followed by

Awagarh, Ganjdundwara blocks receives practically insignificant facility of irrigation through canal system.

The district receives a normal rainfall of 722.60 mm with 40 rainy days experiences sub-tropical climate. The economy of the district mainly depends upon agriculture.

1.3 Availability of Minerals.

No mineral is available in the district.

1.4 FOREST

There is 1000 hectare area covered under forest out of total area 244035 Hectare.

1.5 Administrative set up.

For administrative convenience, the district of Etah has been divided into three tehsils namely,

1. Etah Sadar 2. 3. Jalesar These tehsils are further divided into 8 blocks.
