In October 2005, Dr. French was appointed Acting President of Miles College; then, Interim President, succeeding the late Dr. Albert J.H. Sloan, II. Prior to his appointment as Interim President, Dr. French served nearly ten years as a member of the President’s Cabinet, as Director of Institutional Planning and Development. In this capacity, he supervised the areas of Alumni Affairs, Federal Contracts and Grants, Title III, Institutional Research and Effectiveness, Congressional Relations, Public Relations and Long-range Planning.

His responsibilities included spearheading the highly successful $10 million Destiny Campaign, which exceeded its goal nearly three years ahead of schedule and topped out at over $12 million. As Institutional Development Officer, Dr. French helped to lead the college into a period of heightened prosperity and vigorous growth.

Dr. French is an ordained minister in the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church and most recently served as Pastor of the Mt. Carmel CME Church in Adamsville, Alabama. He is a Connectional Officer in the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, serving as a member of the Judicial Council, elected in 2002 for an eight- year term. The role of Judicial Council is to render declaratory judgments in the interpretation of the CME law.

In March of 2006, under the leadership of Bishop Lawrence L. Reddick III, as Chair, the Miles College Board of Trustees unanimously elected Dr. French the fourteenth President of Miles College. To this auspicious honor and tremendous responsibility, Dr. French brings a tenacious, aggressive style r. George T. Interim Athletic Director Phillip Wallace, Jr.

Phillip Wallace, Jr., is in his second year as interim athletic director and his seventh season as head women’s basketball coach. While at Miles College, Wallace has improved his overall women’s basketball record to 85-142 in the SIAC (Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference). He led his 2010-11 Lady Bears team to their best season ever at Miles with a 21-8 overall record, 16-6 conference record, while finishing second in the 2011 SIAC Women’s Basketball Championships. In 2004-05 his team went 18-10, but had to forfeit 10 games ending 0-28, 2005-06 record was 16-13 with 13 forfeits (0-29), 2006-07 record 3-25 with 3 forfeits (0- 28), 2007-08 record 17-11 (5 forfeits) for a 12-16 finish, 2008-09 season 15-14 overall; 11-12 SIAC record and 2009-10 season 16-11 overall, 13-9 conference record.. Wallace came to Miles from Andrew College with a 46-29 record in Cuthbert, Georgia. There, he served as head men and women’s basketball coach. Before, moving to Andrew College, he was an administrative assistant at Cascade Elementary School from 1999-2000. Wallace was the head women’s basketball and volleyball coach at from 1996-99 with a record of 49-30. He was the head women’s basketball and volleyball coach at Savannah State University from 1990-96 and had a record of 105-38. Wallace is a native of Savannah, Georgia, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree from Savanna State University in 1989 and completed his Master of Public Administration at Savannah State in 1993. Miles, coach Patterson, was instrumental in producing teams and individual players that reaped attention and accolades for their outstanding performances. Recognition came from both the SIAC and NCAA in the form of All-Region, All-Conference Honors, Black College All-Americans, and leaders in stolen bases, walks and team batting averages. Coach Patterson compiled a 133-155 record at Miles. While, at LeMoyne-Owen his teams received high honors in winning three SIAC Western Division II Regular Season Championships, NCAA honors for # 1 in Division II team- stolen bases, individual walks, and individual triples.
