IRAQ HUMANITARIAN AID OPERATION

1. GENERAL SITUATIONPeriod Covered: June 2014 – December 2016

Armed conflict in has claimed more than 20.000 lives whereby civilians from all ethnicities were targeted. Due to instability and an insecure environment, more than 2.5 million people were internally displaced and estimated 5.2 million people are in urgent need. Currently, 18 governorates are hosting IDP’s. Besides that more than 200.000 people live in 25 different IDP camps.

2. TURKISH RED CRESCENT ACTIVITIES

Humanitarian assistance in the area was conducted in close coordination with the Iraqi Red Crescent as an element of the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement. Due to the conflict spilling in close proximity to the base, upon request the team continue d all Iraqi humanitarian activities in Arbil, making Arbil a centralized base for TRC to conduct its Iraq operations all over the country.

2.1. FOOD ITEMS & NON-FOOD ITEMS

Within the campaign started for Iraq, Turkish Red Crescent has dispatched various humanitarian relief items worth 26.358.500,51-TL (including tents, blankets, kitchen sets, hygiene sets, clothing, food and various non-food items) through 43 shipments via 457 Trucks to the following regions; Dohuk, Arbil, , , Necef, Kalar , Tuzhurmato, , and Altun Kupri, reaching Approximately 150.000 families.

The supplies have been distributed to families in need residing in the city centres and surroundings by TRC regional staff. Procurements have been sent to the following regions; Sinjar, Arbil, Kirkuk, Dohuk, , Tuz Khurmatu, Kifri, Altun Kupri, Diyala, Keller, , Tilkef, Baghdad, , Karbala and to regions where camps have been established: Bahira, Bersiv, Kelek, Yahyav, Hazir, Celevle.

Turkish Red Crescent continues its Arbil, Iraq based humanitarian activities. Since the beginning of 2016, life Containers Food parcels, clothing items and hygiene kits have been supplied in 8 parties via a total of 260 trucks.

Also, TRC and IRCS signed MoU regarding to donate 500 family living containers, hence the shipment of 500 containers have been dispatched to Iraq and the infrastructure of containers still on the process. 500 containers will be taken place; Anbar, Baghdad, Dohuk .

As of May 2016, the joint Project with Muslim Aid Australia (MAA) implemented the production and distribution of 5.000 units of bread. The aim of project is to cover 5.000 people in need daily bread needs who is living in urban and camp areas. The Project has been continuing since 15th of May, 2016 and estimated project completion date is 28th of February, 2017. With regards to food parcel and bread production deployment projects, the MAA has provided a total of 104.832,00-USD of its resources.

 331 tents,  500 life containers,  380 Various fixed training materials for 5 schools,

 944.232 Units of shelter material,  1.652.060 units / kg of various foods,  156,191 pieces of various clothing,  358.015 hygiene kits,  265,500 litres of drinking water,  49.436 other humanitarian relief materials.

In June, 500 Food parcels were distributed in Kirkuk reaching approximately 2,500 families.

The Mo sul Liberation Operation

Within the scope of the operation, which was initiated on 16 October 2016, 20 trucks filled with food, hygiene, clothing, blankets and tents were dispatched to Arbil after a ceremony in TRC Ankara Etimesgut compound. Second shipping was initiated on 14 November 2016, 30 trucks filled with mattresses, sleeping bags, kitchen sets, blankets, multipurpose tents and various non-food items were dispatched from TRC’s eight different warehouses to Arbil.
