42 2020-21 UTSA Men’s Basketball Record Book History & Records Retired Jerseys Devin Brown Former UTSA star Devin Brown played eight seasons in the NBA, where he scored 3,352 points in 465 career games. After ending his career at UTSA in 2002 as the program’s all-time leading scorer, Brown went undrafted and was signed by the San Antonio Spurs on Sept. 30, 2002. He was the co-Rookie of the Year in the United States Basketball League in 2002 and the Player and Rookie of the Year in the National Basketball Developmental League in 2003. Brown broke into the league in 2002-03, playing 10 combined games with the Spurs and Denver Nuggets. He then played two full seasons for the Spurs, winning an NBA World Championship in 2005. During the summer of 2005, he signed as a free agent with the Utah Jazz and averaged 7.5 points and 2.6 rebounds per game during the 2005-06 season. Brown was traded to the Golden State Warriors in July 2006 and waived. In December 2006, he signed on with the New Orleans Hornets for the 2006-07 season. Playing in 58 games — including 49 starts — the former South San Antonio West Campus High School star averaged 11.6 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.6 assists per contest. Brown signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers in September 2007 and averaged 7.5 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game in 78 contests, helping the squad advance to the Eastern Conference Semifinal Round of the NBA Playoffs. Brown re-signed with Retired Jerseys the Hornets in August 2008 and averaged 5.2 points per contest during the 2008-09 season. Devin Brown (23) and Derrick Brown played in 39 games for the Hornets in 2009- Gervin (30) are the only two UTSA 10 before appearing in 11 for Chicago following players to have their jersey retired. a midseason trade.

Derrick Gervin Derrick Gervin, younger brother of NBA Hall of Famer George “Iceman” Gervin, starred at UTSA for three seasons (1982-85) and became UTSA’s second-ever NBA Draft Pick when he was selected by the Philadelphia 76ers in the fourth round of the 1985 Draft. Gervin played two seasons for the New Jersey Nets in 1989- 91, averaging 8.8 points and 2.3 rebounds per game for his career. A native of Detroit, Mich., Gervin had his jersey retired by UTSA on March 3, 2006.
