If you’re interested in achieving this stylish and timeless design theme, consider the following tips: THINK ABOUT YOUR COLOR PALETTE Step back from the loud, flashy color scheme you loved in the 90s. Now’s the time to tone things down with a more neutral color palette. Play with different shades of colors like cream, beige, gray and off white, then pick one cool hue to accent with, such as deep blue, forest green or plum. UTILIZE NATURAL TEXTURES The natural textures you use throughout your home will go far in modern farmhouse decor. Be willing to mix wood and metal in your coffee, side and dining room tables. When it comes to your comfy and cozy furniture, use a variety of fabrics like cotton and canvas. Opt for wool and faux fur for your area rugs. A mix of subtle textures is what completes the modern farmhouse feel without getting too busy. ACCESSORIZE FROM CEILING TO FLOOR If you’re not used to using a neutral color palette, you may be worried that your space will look to bare and dull after the redesign. However, modern farmhouse design wants you to emphasize your empty space and accessorize from the walls to the floors. For example, you could create a gallery wall somewhere in your home. Perhaps it’s near the staircase, in the living room, in the kitchen or the entryway. No matter where you choose to accessorize, don’t let your mind wander when it comes to choosing pieces – make sure you stick to your theme.

It means that Florida knows it is an important goal to keep housing affordable, and the amendment helps to avoid making this crisis any worse. The cap remains in place for non-homestead properties and should benefit landlords, renters and small business owners who make up one-third of the population of Florida. Florida is still a dream destination because of our beautiful beaches and sunshine, but our economy and real estate market need to keep getting stronger. Small businesses need to be encouraged to thrive, especially in our beach communities by keeping rental costs down. The passage of the Amendment ends the year on a good note and is encouraging to Florida’s prosperity in 2019. The New Year will also bring us information on the new tax reforms as to how they have affected our real estate market. It has been hinted that reforms will help especially those in the Luxury Butler Pluming Serices real estate market. And although it may not make as big of a Let The Butler Do It! direct effect for the average homeowner, it is still a sign of some prosperity and should aid in the growth that the real estate market Water Heaters • Toilets Faucets has seen in the past several years since the market tanking in the Electric Seer Drain Cleaning early 2000’s. EAST LAKE WOODLANDS COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION - DECEMBER 2018 6 OF THE MONTH CAPPED HERON by Jake Jacoby In a recent trip to Brazil, I was amazed at the amount of different that there are throughout the world. I am so used to seeing herons in North America that I really did not give it much thought. The Great Egret (actually is a heron) is the national symbol of the Audubon Society and, of course, the Heron is the symbol of East Lake Woodlands and the name of this magazine. So, I thought it appropriate to write a series of articles on different types of herons that we do not normally encounter. This article will focus on the Capped Heron, which is endemic (found nowhere else) to the Neotropics, inhabiting the Amazonian rainforest from the center of Panama to the south of Brazil, and is also one of the least known members of the heron family. I Flying along the riverbank was able to photograph this heron while on a boat travelling along the river in the Pantanal in high-speed boats while searching for Jaguars, and other wildlife. The Capped Heron is very different from other herons, being the only one with a blue beak and face, and a black crown. The belly, chest, and neck are covered with yellowish-white feathers. It is literally impossible to tell the difference between the males and females. The Capped Heron normally inhabits swamps and trenches in wet grasslands or rainforests. They prefer to forage on the shore, along riverbanks, or in floating vegetation but have been observed in flooded rice fields. They hunt mostly for fish, but also will eat aquatic insects and larvae, tadpoles, and frogs. In a typical heron hunting sequence, they will stand erect, searching for potential prey. After locating it, they will crouch slowly and extend their neck. Then finally, they will jab their beak into the water at a great speed to either catch or stab their prey. Capped Herons are thought to be crepuscular (most active during twilight hours) and they always hunt alone. Walking along the riverbank Capped Heron Not much is known about the breeding habits of Capped Herons except that they create a nest consisting of sticks. The nests are built in a tree or forest and the nesting sites are solitary (not with other birds). The female lays a clutch of 3 or 4 dull white eggs and the chicks hatch in approximately 1-month covered in white down. Both parents will care for the chicks even after they have fledged (able to fly). I took all of the above photographs in 2018 in Brazil. Next month we will feature the “” which is an unique, multi-colored heron. Please see my favorite photographs at: wwwflickr.com/jake_ jacoby
