SCHOOL CLOSING INFORMATION: Call your child's school phone number (Manhattan Jr. High – 815-478-6090), or the district phone number (815-478- 6093). Then, press 5 to hear updated information about school closings.

Parents have other options to receive information on whether our school will follow PLAN A: School is closed or PLAN B: School will begin one hour later than usual. These options are as follows: 1. Listen to WJOL Radio (1340 AM), WGN Radio (720 AM), WBBM Radio (780 AM), CBS Channel 2, NBC Channel 5, ABC Channel 7, WGN Channel 9, Fox Channel 32 and CLTV Cable. 2. By touch-tone phone call 312-222-SNOW. You will be prompted to enter our main phone number 815-478-4527. 3. Access the website www.emergencyclosings.com. Once connected, search for Wilson Creek School for information. Parents can sign-up to receive an e-mail notification through this website.

EARLY DISMISSAL: If it becomes necessary to close school during the day, an announcement will be made on WJOL (1340 AM) radio. Our school will attempt to contact Wilson Creek, Anna McDonald, and requested Manhattan Junior High parents, only in the event of an early dismissal. Make sure your child has proper instructions as what to do! MJHS Country Meats Fundraiser is Back! Our popular snack stick fundraiser is returning this year – with contactless delivery and sales. The sale begins Nov. 2 and ends Nov. 13. The snack sticks come in a variety of savory flavors and are great for Christmas stocking stuffers, kids lunches, sports, etc.

SCIENCE The week of October 19 was Nuclear Science Week. Excelon provided a virtual tour of a nuclear facility for the 8th grade Science classes. Students then got to meet remotely through Zoom with Eric Rash, a Nuclear Engineer. Eric was able to explain nuclear energy and answer questions about careers in engineering and in nuclear pathways. Mrs. Webb and Mrs. Goberville will be working on bringing other opportunities such as this to the 8th grade Science classes. RED RIBBON WEEK Red Ribbon Week will be 11/9-11/13. More details to follow.

PARENT / TEACHER CONFERENCES Parent/Teacher conferences are on, November 23, 12 - 7 PM and November 24, 8 - 1 PM. More information coming, it will be done online.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING There will be NO SCHOOL on Wednesday, November 25, Thursday, November 26 or Friday, November 27. On behalf of all faculty and staff, we wish you and your family a Happy Thanksgiving!

FROM THE NURSES OFFICE Dental examinations are required for all children entering Kindergarten, Second, and Sixth grade. A licensed dentist in must complete dental examinations. The completed exams are due by May 15, 2019 for the 2018-2019 school year. The exam must have been completed within 18 months prior to the May 15th deadline. Any exam done on or after November 15, 2019 is acceptable. Any student interested in trying out for any sports team must have a Sports Physical. Sports Physicals are good for one year. Any questions regarding this contact the schools nurse.

BAND NEWS Thank you to everyone who participated in our Butterbraid fundraiser! If you sold Butterbraids, please be sure to pick up you Butterbraids on Monday, November 16 between 3:45-5:00pm in the JH parking lot. If you did not sell Butterbraids, please be sure to turn in your buyout. Buyout for 6-8th graders is $50.00. Buyout for 5th graders is $25.00. Please make sure your child is working on their solo for the virtual Solo and Ensemble Contest. All recording need to be done NO LATER than December 1, so make sure your child is practicing! Make sure your child remembers to attend their band lesson when they are at home! When students are at home on the day of their lesson, they should zoom in for their lesson. ORCHESTRA/CHOIR NEWS Congratulations to our amazing musicians on their first fall concert outdoors! We enjoyed seeing so many families in lawn chairs and blankets.....thank you for coming out!

Next project is record music for our Veteran's SlideShow. We are recording on November 4th during regular rehearsal times, and please scan any photos you'd like to contribute. I'm going to keep repeating myself by telling you how wonderful, hard working, and incredible your children are. Thank you, parents for all of your help, you are also truly amazing. #LuckiestMusicTeacher!!!!
