The report focuses on detailed descriptions of the physical and chemical attributes and the limitations of the soils for agricultural production. The report should be used in conjunction with the published soils and suitability map. The very complex distribution of the 52 soils identified in the study can be attributed mainly to a complex geomorphic history. The relatively simple geology gives little indication to this complexity. Rapid soil changes over short distances and their associated attributes contributes to a general fragmentation of rural activities and infrastructure. Water supply and associated infrastructure are the main limitations to agricultural development. At present, the bulk of the agricultural development is restricted to the Bundaberg Irrigation Area (BIA) with little room for further development on freehold land within the BIA.

    Referral of proposed action What is a referral? The Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (the EPBC Act) provides for the protection of the environment, especially matters of national environmental significance (NES). Under the EPBC Act, a person must not take an action that has, will have, or is likely to have a significant impact on any of the matters of NES without approval from the Australian Government Environment Minister or the Minister’s delegate. (Further references to ‘the Minister’ in this form include references to the Minister’s delegate.) To obtain approval from the Environment Minister, a proposed action should be referred. ROBERTSON 72 CAINOZOIC VOLCANIC ROCKS IN THE BUNDABERG - GIN GIN - PIALBA AREA, QUEENSLAND by A.D. Robertson ABSTRACT. Six periods of volcanic activity have been recognized during the Cainozoic Era in the southern portion of the Bundaberg and the northern part of the Maryborough 1:250 000 sheet areas. Most have been short lived (less than 15 to 2 Ma) and all are of limited areal extent. The composition of the lavas vary with successive eruptive periods. The Palaeocene to early Eocene volcanics (Gin Gin and Pemberton Grange Basalts) are dominantly theoleiitic in composition. By the mid-Miocene, alkali basalt was being extruded. Moderately to strongly undersaturated lavas (Tararan and Maroondan Melanephelinites) were extruded during the Pliocene, and by the Pleistocene the magma composition had changed back towards the alkali basalt — hawaiite field. The late Pleistocene Berrembea Basalt exhibits a range of composition from moderately undersaturated to lava having tholeiitic affinities. The Tararan Melanephelinite with its entrained upper mantle — lower crustal xenoliths implies magma generation in the upper mantle with a direct passage through the crust.

Being As it was Easter weekend, it was decided Easter Sunday we were not sure how we stay off highways as much as possible many takers we would have, but there – so 11 bikes with pillion Lyn hit the back were 10 people on 8 bikes, including Ron roads to Moore Park, across country to W’s son, Geoff on his Harley, and we Rosedale road, and up to Jo's Roadhouse welcomed a new rider – Bill? on his V for a break – here we turned off and Star. After a quick ride briefing we headed headed back through Bucca, and on to along the Bundaberg Gin Gin Rd to the Bullyard – across the road, through Wallaville turnoff. Taking in a few twists, Bungadoo to Wallaville – here we had curves and large hills we arrived at the lunch at the pub – leaving there we went Bruce Highway near Red Bank Gully. We headed back towards Gin Gin and turned left into Skyrings Reserve Rd. We took the loooooooong way around to Gin Gin via Tirroan, and met up with Lyn and Brian on her V Star for some morning tea.

This commitment is part of the Councils’ work with the Boyne Burnett Inland Rail Trail Inc to champion the development of the rail corridor and represent the expectations of the community. The Department of Transport and Main Roads funded the project and the two Councils oversaw the preparation of the report. The proposed Boyne Burnett Inland Rail Trail would be developed effectively on two disused railway corridors between Taragoola (Calliope) and Reids Creek (Gayndah).

From Aboriginal word for ‘wild woman’ or ‘wild Mary’ 2. By early settler John Broom, for two family names ‘Margaret’ & ‘Ian’ The first person to secure land at Miara was James Palmer in 1870. John Broom was next in 1872, then his brothers Stephen and Abraham - the Brooms owned much of the land in Miara. In the mid-1890s A.M. Broom, Otto Mikkelson and bun01498: Miara Mill (date unknown) Douglas Helmore purchased Greenwood Mill (on Yandaran Creek) and re-erected it at Miara. The mill began crushing in 1897 and was successful until its closure at the end of the 1917 season. Advertised for sale by auction in July 1918 it was at some point mortgaged to the Fairymead Company. Fairymead later cancelled the debt in return for the land. Mrs Miara Ferguson (nee Broom, b.1893), niece of John Broom, and daughter of Abraham Broom, claimed that Miara was named for two family names commonly used by the Broom family, as above. Miara herself was named after the family property. She became Queensland’s first female sugar chemist when she qualified by 1916. Her intent was to work at her family’s Miara Mill testing the Commercial Cane Sugar (CCS) content of the cane crushed at the mill.
