This pop-rapper hasn’t had it easy, making the transition to Florida at just 15, and using hard-earned savings to pursue her dream of a music career. Amethyst Amelia Kelly, now known as Iggy Azalea was obsessed with rap music since the age of 11, and started rapping at 14, with huge influence from 2Pac. Kelly was discovered by Perez Hilton on YouTube in 2011, and shortly afterwards released her first mixtape, Ignorant Art, partially produced by D.R.U.G.Z, and then released her first EP project, Glory, in 2012. Later that same year, Diplo produced Azalea’s ‘TrapGold’ electro-trap-hip-hop mixtape featuring big names such as Sleigh Bells, Juicy J and FKi. Iggy Azalea’s The New Classic is currently sat at No. 3 on Billboard’s Top 100 albums, and is projected to sit in the top 10 for a few more weeks. The New Classic isn’t just an album, it’s a story of Iggy Azalea’s ascent to fame. Most memorably, ‘Work’ gives the listeners an insight into the move across the Pacific Ocean. First released ahead of the album, ‘Work’ reached No. 17 in the UK charts in 2013, with its catchy, yet clever rap lyrical-genius. ‘Fancy’ featuring Charli XCX, attained 5th position in the UK charts, and 7th in the US charts, showcasing Azalea’s tough exterior. Sadly Charli XCX appears to steal the song, with her captivating vocals during the chorus. The music video pays tribute to Clueless, possibly fundamental during their childhood. ‘Fancy’ mirrors the move to the hi-life of the States, during which lyrics such as “Classic, expensive, you don’t get to touch” appear. The New Classic unquestionably represents Azalea’s adoration of hip-hop, especially in ‘Change Your Life’ during her collaboration with T.I., previously dubbed as ‘King of the South’. The release of this song could arguably be seen as Iggy’s breakthrough tune, with a consistent bassy beat. Personally, my favourite is ‘Black Widow’ which features British-bred Rita Ora. This track incorporates an easy-listening vibe, which is ideal for playing over the radio Iggy Azalea definitely is appreciated more in the UK, than across the pond where Kelly is trying to reach the stars. Iggy Azalea appears to have suffered a slight loss of identity during album production, reflecting the move away from her Australian roots, towards a more Americanised sound. Produced by Diplo, and http://nouse.co.uk/2014/05/04/album-review-iggy-azalea-the-new-classic Archived 11 Dec 2018 07:58:05 Nouse Web Archives Album Review: Iggy Azalea – The New Classic Page 2 of 3 signed on with Def Jam Records, Iggy Azalea certainly has built up a large fan-base, which is exposed in recent sale success. Overall, I’d give this album a 4/5, with its catchy lyrics, and clear rap-hip-hop style. 2 comments I-GG-Y 23 May ’14 at 12:50 pm First thing first, I’m the realest. ‘captivating vocals during the chorus’ ahahahahahahahahahahahaaa! ‘reflecting the move away from her Australian roots’ : She raps with a southern American accent and her musical inspiration comes from American rappers. Where are these Australian roots? ‘clear rap-hip-hop style’ So you are giving her marks for writing music that you can clearly identify as rap music? Gosh. Diplo didn’t produce this album has had a small affect on Iggy’s career. Next time, peruse Wikipedia before reviewing. Report So fancy 23 May ’14 at 5:35 pm Sassssss Report Most Read Discussed 1.
