The perspective from a po- lice cruiser opens residents’ eyes to crime in Revere and city shortcomings contributing to crime. Tuesday’s Night Out celebrations at the West Revere school complex and the Gar- field School resembled typical summertime events with hot dogs, activities for the kids and entertainment. Baker attended the West Revere Night Out and mingled with resi- dents who met police officers and, more often than not, renewed acquaintances with law enforcement who are also their neighbors or friends of friends. National Night Out is built on the dual premise that communities need not surren- der after-dark hours to individuals engaged in lawlessness. It is also devoted to the idea that residents can work with police to make all hours of the day safer. Revere Mayor Brian Arrigo and his prede- cessors embraced that commitment by intro- ducing voters to police work and by making Broadway, and streets running off it, safer through community policing. To their credit, Revere officials picked Gar- field and the West Revere complex to host Tuesday’s celebrations. Both schools are neighborhood focal points where community activities and public meetings overlap school events. Opened almost 10 years ago, the West Re- vere complex includes the Whelan Elemen- tary and Susan Anthony middle schools as well as a sprawling open field. The complex is a natural gathering place for West Revere WILLIAM HOGARTH, STEVE MURAWSKI neighbors and a modern public facility em- braced with pride by residents. Calvin Klein names Raf Simons Sister cities unite in Revere as new chief creative officer

NEW YORK (AP) — Calvin Klein Inc. has named Belgian designer Raf Simons as chief creative officer of the brand. Simons, a former creative director at Christian Dior who is known for his minimalist and linear style, will oversee all aspects of design, global marketing, communications and visual creative Simons services. His first collection will make its debut for the fall 2017 season. The move follows Calvin Klein’s announcement in April that Calvin Klein Collections designers Fran- cisco Costa and Italo Zucchelli would leave the company, reflecting a global strategy that brings all the Calvin Klein brands under one creative vision. Calvin Klein, owned by PVH Corp., has said the evo- lution began with the 2013 reacquisition of its jeans and underwear businesses by buying Warnaco Group. PVH also owns Tommy Hilfiger, Van Heusen and Izod.
