Dear Members of the City Council:

I join the Coalition on Homelessness in calling on you to take these FIVE actions in the City’s budget to help and house people who are homeless, and start to take our city’s crisis response to scale. 1. Create and maintain stable and permanent housing o 350 additional Permanent Supportive Homes for homeless people who need the supports and staffing levels of Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH). $31.5M over remaining 5 years of Housing Levy o Provide stable housing for 1,000 households with extremely low incomes who do not need 24/7 supports , who may be able to pay some rent, but who need deep subsidies. $17.8M for one year o Sustain services for PSH resident affected by United Way cuts. $2.5M per year 2. Strengthen our Crisis Response System. Make significant investments to support city’s Pathways Home goals, ensure more shelter & survival services to more realistically match unmet needs (the current Request for Proposals which contains no new $) $30M for key services, one-time investments 3. Align city resources & policies so that people who are homeless outside are helped, not harmed. 4. Support and stabilize the workforce that staffs our Crisis Response System. $11.2M per year 5. Secure additional revenue to fund these and other essential services. Seattle declared a homeless state of emergency two years ago: Build a budget that responds!

A personal note: I urge you to vote for a budget that funds these priorities because…

Sincerely,
