The idea of publishing a booklet was born when we planned to support our CCs (Co-operation Circles) by giving them a collection of DVDs recommended for use during interfaith gatherings. They are useful for inspiring discussions with people interested in different religions and cultures.

Our idea was to get more concrete by learning about the work of the 20,000 Dialogues team, ﬁ rst of all on the internet and then personally as well. This took place in Mayapur during the URI Global and Youth Conference in India.

Daniel Tutt, one of the Project Managers, was a participant at the conference. He offered to send ﬁ lm material from his ﬁ lm project to all of our Co- operation Circles in order to enable them to become part of the project. Thank you to the 20,000 Dialogues team and especially to Daniel Tutt for his kind suggestion.

How to Start a Dialogue

Whether you’re interested in starting a community dialogue or a ‘living room’ dialogue, the process is easy:

1. Sign-up to host a dialogue. 2. Receive the DVD of the ﬁ lm you‘ve chosen 3. Download the Dialogue Packet and other resources. 4. Watch the ﬁ lm and conduct the dialogue, using the Dialogue Packet as a guide. 5. Evaluate the dialogue experience.

Steps to Running your Dialogue

1. Promote and publicize – publicity, media and social networking tools 2. Prepare to facilitate your dialogue – icebreakers, orientation and exercises 3. Facilitate the dialogue – print out our customized discussion guides per your ﬁ lm 4. Evaluate your dialogue – print out the pre and post evaluation forms for participants

What is URI (United Religions Initiative)?

The United Religions Initiative (URI) is a global interfaith network, created by a diverse community of people committed to promoting enduring daily interfaith cooperation, ending religiously motivated violence and creating cultures of peace, justice and healing. Founded in the year 2000 by activists from all continents, belonging to over a hundred different religions, worldviews, spiritual expressions and indigenous traditions, URI presently includes approximately four hundred interfaith groups, called Co-operation Circles (CCs), with over a million people in more than seventy-fi ve countries worldwide. URI has been established in an evolving process over fi fteen years since 1995, with thousands of people involved in co-creating its design and founding docu- ment, the URI Charter. The member groups, called Co-operation Circles (abbreviated CCs), consist of at least seven people from at least three religions, spiritual expressions and indigenous traditions, who support and accept the URI Charter. Individual members and associations are welcomed as affi liates or supporting members with limited rights and responsibilities. The size of our network has increased six-fold in just ten years, and we are currently growing at a rate of twenty-three percent per year. URI works in eight world regions, one of which is Europe. It has special consultative status with the United Nations (UN).

URI Europe currently has thirty inter-religious membership-organizations, called Co-operation Circles, in fourteen countries. Additional circles are in their founding-stage and their number is growing.
