Plaintiff End Citizens United (“ECU”) brings this action against the Federal Election Commission (“FEC” or “Commission”) pursuant to 52 U.S.C. § 30109(a)(8), challenging as contrary to law the FEC’s dismissal of Plaintiff’s administrative complaint against Donald J. Trump for President, Inc. (the “Trump Campaign”), the former president’s campaign committee. 2. On May 7, 2019, the Trump Campaign issued a public statement that criticized the “dishonest fundraising” practices of certain groups and informed potential donors that only five entities were “authorized” or “approved” by President Trump or the Republican National Committee (the “RNC”): four of those entities were official campaign or party organizations, and the fifth was America First Action—a super PAC. 3. The Federal Election Campaign Act (“FECA”) and FEC regulations prohibit campaigns from soliciting contributions to super PACs unless certain critical measures are taken to ensure that the solicited contributions do not come from prohibited sources or exceed federal 1 Case 1:21-cv-01665-TJK Document 1 Filed 06/21/21 Page 2 of 14 contribution limits. See 52 U.S.C. § 30125(e); 11 C.F.R. § 300.61. But the Trump Campaign took no such measures in its May 7 solicitation, instead issuing a blanket endorsement of contributions to the “approved” super PAC—contributions that would include corporate and unlimited funds, also known as “soft money,” which federal candidates are banned from soliciting. -

Part 16, American Oversight makes the following request for records. The 2013 Government Shutdown And The Internal Divisions Of Congressional Republicans. Pro Gradu Thesis, 102 pages, 6 annex pages. Contemporary History January 2017 Abstract: The aim of this thesis is to look into the 2013 government shutdown in the United States of America, which lasted from October 1 to October 16, with the purpose of studying the internal divisions that were created or made visible within the Congressional manifestation of the Republican Party. The main sources for the thesis are a pair of shutdown-inducing letters from Mark Meadows and Mike Lee to Congressional leaders, the final tallies of the votes that ended the shutdown, as well as media sources. The initial shutdown-related division was made apparent in the summer of 2013 between the 14 Senators and 80 Representatives supporting through the Meadows and Lee letters a "defunding strategy", which ultimately led to the shutdown, and the 32 Senators and 152 Representatives who opposed using said strategy to combat President Obama's healthcare reform. The final division was between the 18 Senators and 144 Representatives who opposed the final compromise that ended the shutdown and the 27 Senators and 87 Representatives who voted in favor of reopening the government. Republicans who did not sign one of the letters and who voted for the final compromise were more likely to have experience of previous government shutdowns; more likely to have seniority over their colleagues; more likely to be ideologically moderate; less likely to be affiliated with the Tea Party; and more likely to hail from competitive districts or states, while the opposite is true for the Republicans who had signed one of the letters and who opposed the final compromise. -

Trump Administration Allies Have Burrowed Into 24 Critical Civil Service Positions And 187 Last-Minute Appointments SUMMARY: Following the outgoing administration’s “quiet push to salt federal agencies with Trump loyalists,” an Accountable.US review has found that, as of February 22, 2021, at least 24 Trump administration political appointees have “burrowed” into long-term civil service jobs in the new Biden administration. This includes at least four figures in the national security apparatus, nine figures with environmental regulators, three figures in the Department of Justice, two figures in the embattled Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and at least six other appointees elsewhere who have refused to step down in the transition. Burrowing of this sort is not treated lightly, as officials who transfer from political appointments to career positions must undergo scrutiny by federal personnel overseers for a full five years—and some of these cases have been found to violate federal laws and have drawn congressional scrutiny. However, there is a much wider slate of concerning Trump administration appointments that are not subject to such strict oversight: During the Trump administration’s waning days following the 2020 election, it announced 187 last-minute appointments to various boards, commissions, and councils that don’t require Senate confirmation. While some of these appointments have already drawn alarm for going to campaign staffers, megadonors, and top administration allies, Accountable.US has unearthed even more troubling names in Trump’s outgoing deluge. Similar to how early Trump administration personnel picks were directly conflicted against the offices they served, many of these late Trump appointments are woefully underqualified or have histories directly at odds with the positions to which they were named—and they are likely to stay in long into the Biden administration.
