I know 1909 coming out in the near future and is only a minor update, but is anyone aware of the upgrade path I must take? Do I need to go to 1903 first, then run the 1909 CU? Anyone gone from 1709 or 1803 up to 1903? Any advice is appreciated. Hopefully I can go up to 1909 directly without too many hoops to jump. Answers. You can perform upgrade using ISO file from existing version to newer version. So when V1909 is out, you can download its ISO file and directly upgrade to V1909 from V1709 or V1803. There is no need to go to V1903 and then to V1909. Note that V1909 is not a CU but a feature update from 19H2 development branch. Now Windows has downloaded update 1803 x64 2019-07B (I delayed the installation by 365 days) and wants to install it by restarting the computer. However, I have postponed this so far. I would like to update directly to 1903. I discovered the link. But since 1803 is already downloaded will this work? If yes, how do I delete the downloaded 1803? Or is this done automatically? And one other question: It seems that it is recommended to make a complete image backup of the drive. How to do this? Which is the best software for this? Subscribe Subscribe to RSS feed. Download feature update to windows 10 version 1709. I've seen it said in another forum: "1909 can be enabled thru WSUS by looking for "Feature Update to Windows 10 version 1909. It is NOT a security or critical patch, so if your WSUS is restricted to download only those, you will not see it. After approval, the install is pretty quick thru " My question: To get this within WSUS, we must enable 'Feature Packs' in Updates and Classifications?? Or something else. If I add this item, what ELSE will be installed to all our computers and servers?? We don't want any unnecessary updates that could cause problems. We presently have the Feature Updates and whatnot policies set to 'NOT Configured' to prevent the WSUS dual scan problem. All replies. My question: To get this within WSUS, we must enable 'Feature Packs' in Updates and Classifications?? Or something else. You need to enable the "Upgrades" classification. After adding this classification, you can approve feature updates for Windows 10 in WSUS. After waiting for the client computers to complete their status report, the approval prompts an upgrade of "Needed". Hope the above can help you. Please remember to mark as answers if they help. Been there done that no updates appear. :) Not gonna worry about it too much since I can eventually rebuild with 1909 or 2003 at some point. Was just wondering if there really is a way to get the update via WSUS. I had the configuration below and did not receive the upgrade updates for Windows 10 1909 and 2004. Product: Windows 10 Classification: All except drivers. By checking the product Windows 10, version 1903 and later , as suggested by tlyczko2, then my WSUS downloaded these upgrade updates. The enablement package is a great option for installing a scoped feature update like Windows 10, version 1909 as it enables an update from version 1903 to version 1909 with a single restart, reducing update downtime. This enables devices to take advantage of new features now. For version 1903 devices that receive updates directly from Windows Update, devices automatically get the enablement package by installing the feature update to Windows 10, version 1909. If a device is updating from Windows 10, version 1809 or an earlier version, this feature update enablement package cannot be manually installed. Instead, it is bundled and automatically included with the feature update to Windows 10, version 1909. Note the installation time is not reduced in this scenario. I was not asking about initiating updates in general, I was asking specifically about Feature updates to a new Windows 10 version . Suggested commands only install general Windows updates only! In short, I need to "press" this button using cmd, Powershell or GPO (in order to automate): Or is it only available in GUI. Edited by auxinaz Tuesday, September 10, 2019 10:15 AM. You can try to get the update to load with A. use Windows Update or use the B.. "Even better methods" or C. "Best methods" below (which is what I would do). A. Try to use Windows Update. 1. What I would first do is update the BIOS and chipset drivers at the System/Motherboard Maker's site. 2. Uninstall ALL 3rd party antivirus/security programs and then run its maker's removal tool to prevent trouble causing remnants. Use Windows Defender which in Windows 10 is a full antivirus. 3. Reduce the system down to as simple as possible by removing all the unnecessary devices possible such as USB drives. 4. Uninstall any 3rd party programs Windows suggests. Now try updating again. B. Even better methods : (please do 1 - 4 above first) : Be sure to have updated the BIOS as indicated above. Or use the MCT to update to Windows 10 1709. C. Or best method would be to do a Clean Install of 1709 to start with a Clean Slate. You should still first update the BIOS. If you do a Clean Install then it would be activated with the Digital Entitlement.
