A Message from Monsignor Hennessy Dear Parishioners,

As we continue our celebration of Easter this weekend, especially by celebrating Divine Mercy Sunday, I want to renew my prayerful best wishes to each of you. I hope that this season of Easter is truly a time of deepening faith in Jesus Christ, of renewed friendship with family and friends, in particular with parish family, and of health as we enjoy the increasing warmth and beauty of spring.

It was wonderful to see so many of you join us in-person for the celebration of Holy Week and Easter. Our increased seating allowed so many to return to church, while allowing for social distancing. I am especially grateful for the cooperation of everyone in following the direction of our ushers and in ob- serving our seating arrangements. I hope that many will continue to return to in-person celebration of Mass. For those who have yet to do so, please know of my availability to answer any questions or con- cerns you have about what to expect when you come back to Mass for the first time. In the Gospel ac- count of the disciples on the road to Emmaus, we hear that they come to know the Risen Lord through the Scriptures and the Breaking of the Bread, the Holy Eucharist. This is precisely what we do at Mass – we hear the Scriptures proclaimed and we receive the Body and Blood of Jesus. When we are nourished by his Word and his Sacrament, we experience that communion with God and one another which he wishes for us, and we receive and are then able to benefit from the immeasurable gifts God grants to us.

I want to thank Senior and Father Chylinski, as well JT and John, for all they did to help us celebrate Holy Week and Easter so well. So too I am grateful for the tireless work of our parish staff and all our liturgical ministers for their generous help. In particular, I thank in the name of the whole parish Frank Stieber, our Music Director, and all our cantors for the beautiful music which helped us to pray so well; Jeff Clements, our Communication and Technology Director, for all of this work in stream- ing the Masses and liturgies; and Suzanne Pacitti and Peg Havard, for so beautifully decorating our Church for the various celebrations. Everyone contributed so much and helped us to appreciate the sacred character of these days.

May this Easter season be a time of grace for us all and may we be open to that grace by daily re- newing our yes to God. And may we continue to grow as a parish family, sharing our lives with one an- other and giving thanks to God through generous service to those most in need.

Sincerely in the Risen Lord, Monsignor Hennessy

ACT OF SPIRITUAL READINGS FOR NEXT WEEK

COMMUNION Reading I: Acts 4: 32-35 (St. Alphonsus Ligouri) We read a description of the “golden age” of the early Church My Jesus, I believe that You are present in in Apostolic times. It is an ideal community life, in which members generously surrendered their goods and property the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above based on their needs. all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive Reading II: I John 5: 1-6 You sacramentally, come at least This “letter” is really an exhortation to its readers to so live that their faith overcomes “the world.” God’s Son came to us “in spiritually into my heart. I embrace water and blood.” You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. The Gospel: John 20: 19-31 Never permit me to be separated After the report of St. Thomas’ initial doubt and its resolution, we learn the purpose of the Gospel: having faith in Jesus as from You. Amen. Messiah and Son of God, who is the source of eternal life.
