The seeds for public discord are sown when a particular kind of logic for capturing the complexity of any problematic is privileged over a competing (counter) logic attempting to do the same thing. The Fraser Institute proposes to the public a particular vision on how to improve secondary schools by manufacturing annual school report cards that are published in newspapers and online. Proponents of school report cards believe that school improvement is predicated on measurement, competition, market-driven reform initiatives, and choice. They support the strategies and techniques used by the Fraser Institute to demarcate the limits and boundaries of exemplary educational practice. Critics of school report cards object to the way ranking rubrics highlight and amplify differences that exist between schools.

BACKGROUND: The CWPP Update was prepared by BA Blackwell & Associates in consultation with multiple stakeholders and key staff in the Parks, Communications, Fire Services, Engineering, Environmental Sustainability and Planning departments. The plan contains an assessment of fuel types and assets exposed to wildfire hazard across the District, and a set of recommendations aimed at reducing wildfire risk to people, infrastructure and the environment, with the focus on areas along the wildland-urban interface (WUI) zone. The Wildfire Risk Management System (WRMS) was used to identify areas of high hazard fuels associated with values at risk within the District. A total of 52 strategic recommendations have been proposed and summarised in Table 1 within the Executive Summary/Summary of CWPP Recommendations section at the beginning of the plan. Approximately 164 hectares (ha) of high hazard fuel types have been identified and the areas detailed in Section 5.1.1 Proposed Treatment Units, page 63, Table 15 and Map 11 Proposed and Past Treatments page 69 for locations.

    Student Registration/ Transfer Requests 2014 – 2015 School Year New Registrations Grade 1 - 12 All children new to North Vancouver (not currently attending a North Vancouver School District school), must register at Central Registration beginning January 20, 2014. Registration deadline for priority placement is March 7, 2014. All registrations require the student’s original birth certificate, (if not born in Canada, bring proof of citizenship, passport and Permanent Resident Card), proof of current residence at the date of application, (BC Hydro bill, Purchase agreement, or if Tenancy agreement, to also include a letter from the landlord and a copy of the landlord’s Hydro Bill). A copy of the report card from the previous school is also required. Late French Immersion – Grade 6 entry Late French Immersion is designed for non-French speaking students. Following two years in Grade 6 and 7 at the elementary level, Late French Immersion students complete their bilingual program with their peers from the Early French Immersion program at a secondary French Immersion school.
