NCC NAVY WING ST. TERESA’S COLLEGE (AUTONOMOUS), ERNAKULAM __________________________________________________________ ANNUAL REPORT 2020 – 2021 DECEMBER 4 - INDIAN NAVY DAY In association with Indian Navy Day which is celebrated annually on Dec 4th, the NCC Naval cadets prepared a creative and informational video to raise public awareness about the uniqueness and some of the achievements of the Indian Navy and shared it on social media. Link to the video: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Dvu1eKYjGjs6wf2UoGmFWIBq41kLf_Go/view? usp=sharing MUSIC VIDEO ON NATION BUILDING NCC Naval Wing of St. Teresa’s College created a music video on the theme of Nation Building and sent it as an official entry to be screened at the induction programme for the institutions newly enrolled into NCC, a function that is presided over by the Hon. Prime Minister of India, Shri. Narendra Modi. The medley includes an original composition by the cadets based on the renowned Hindi poem titled ‘Mathrubhumi’ by Maithili Sharan Gupt. Link to the music video: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1KZEYEY2E366m7WUR578krGcbfkG44UW5/vie w?usp=sharing PARTICIPATION IN THE WEBINAR ON ‘COASTAL SECURITY AND THE ROLE OF NCC’ 17 cadets from the NCC Navy Wing of St. Teresa’s College (Autonomous), Ernakulam attended a webinar on ‘Coastal Security and the Role of NCC’ organized by 7(K) Naval Unit NCC. The session took place on 22nd January, 2021 at 11:30 am on Google Meet platform. It was a one-hour session. The resource person was Suresh Chandran, an Indian Naval Officer. The aim of the webinar was to make cadets understand the origin and need of coastal security in our country, to enhance awareness about extant procedures and to optimize the role of NCC cadets in nation building. The resource person explained the 2008 Mumbai Terrorist Attacks and its consequences to all the cadets. He also briefed about the well-coordinated action taken by the NSG Commandos, MARCOS and the Mumbai Police that enabled us to eliminate nine terrorists and capture one. The session gave the cadets a detailed understanding of the role of Indian Navy and the extensive measures it takes to combat threats to coastal security such as intensive patrolling, extensive awareness campaigns in all coastal villages, regular meetings, dedicated joint operations centers set up in major ports and C-in-C coastal defence with responsibility for overall maritime security. Coastal States have implemented colour schemes for fishing boats of each state to help in easy identification. Fishermen, coastal villages and fishing boat operators are the first line of defence in ensuring coastal security. They are the eyes and ears of the nation. In Kerala, Kadalora Jagratha Samithis have been set up in all fishing villages. NCC cadets are best suited to work alongside fishermen in matters of coastal security due to the advantage of local dialect, ethnicity, familial bonds and friends. The resource person urged that NCC cadets should act as a role model for the younger generation/ children of fishermen. NCC NAVAL WING ORIENTATION PROGRAMME FOR 20-21 BATCH An Orientation Programme was organised for the first batch of NCC Navy Wing, on 4th February 2021 at 11.00 am. Capt. C. Suresh, Commanding Officer of 7 (K) NU NCC was invited as the resource person. The programme started with a prayer, followed by a welcome address by Cadet Lakshmi Rajan. Capt. C. Suresh punctuated his lively interactive session with several anecdotes from his long service and inspiring fables. Explaining the objectives, role, organizational structure and activities of NCC, he talked about how important it is for today’s youth to join NCC and help in Nation Building. He briefed about the uniqueness of Indian Navy, the various opportunities available in the Armed Forces, and how one can take up a career in Defense, especially in the Indian Navy. Cadet Diya Mary Joshy offered the vote of thanks. SWARNIM VIJAY VARSH CELEBRATIONS AND THE RECEPTION OF ‘VICTORY FLAME’ On 26th March 2021, at 10.00 am, ten cadets from the Naval Wing of St. Teresa’s College participated in an event organised by 7(K) Naval Unit NCC to celebrate ‘Swarnim Vijay Varsh’ – commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Indian Victory in the 1971 Indo-Pak War. As part of Swarnim Vijay Varsh celebrations, the Victory Flame lit by the Hon. Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi is moving across the nation. The Victory Flame that reached Kochi on 23rd March 2021 was received at INS Venduruthy. The presentations and interactive session as part of the programme gave the participants deep insights into the 1971 War, its importance and the vital role played by the Indian Navy in this historical win. On 31st March, 2021 at 11.00 am, another event of similar kind was organised by 7(K) Naval Unit NCC at Chinmaya Vidyalaya School, Tripunithura and ten cadets from the Naval Wing participated in it. SWACHH BHARAT CYCLE RALLY On 21st March 2021, Cadet Nandana Anil and Cadet Dana. K. Augustine participated in a Swachh Bharat themed cycle rally conducted by 7 (K) NU NCC. Capt. C. Suresh, Commanding Officer, 7(K) NU NCC flagged off the cycle rally which started from Ravipuram at 9.00 am and ended by 1.00 pm at Vypin ferry. The participants of the rally also cleaned two public statues of the former Indian President, Late Dr. Abdul Kalam on route and the surroundings of Vypin Ferry. ELECTION DUTY AS SPECIAL POLICE OFFICERS Eight NCC Naval Cadets from the college were recruited as Special Police Officers to assist the police force during the Kerala Legislative Assembly elections in April 2021. They attended a training session on 3rd April 2021, Saturday, at 11 am at Little Flower Seminary, Aluva. SPOs were deployed on election duty for two days – April 5th & 6th. SPOs were asked to report at their respective police station at 8.00 am on 05-04-2021, Monday. Their primary duty was to organize queues at polling booths and crowd management. .
