Dear Supporters of Girl Scouts,

While most of you know that the three C’s of Girl learning skills that they will carry for their lifetime. Scouts are “courage, confidence, and character,” We know from our alum studies that girls who you’ll often hear people talk about the “other” three are Girl Scouts for at least three years are more C's: cookies, crafts and camping. For some, those are likely to vote, more likely to be a volunteer in their the images that pop into their head when discussing community, and more likely to go to college and earn Girl Scouts. But “cookies, crafts, and camping” an advanced degree (where they earn about $10,000 doesn’t even begin to cover what our girls do. They more in salary than their non-Girl Scout peers). We do so much more! know that when girls succeed, so does society. Girl Scouts continues to evolve to meet the needs For more than 100 years, Girl Scouts has been creating of girls in an ever-changing world. There is no the leaders of tomorrow through our vast network of organization more capable or more committed to supporters. And we will continue that tradition for developing the future for every G.I.R.L. (go-getter, generations to come. We are enormously proud of innovator, risk-taker and leader)™. Girl Scouts is our Girl Scouts. We are also proud of our dedicated proven to be the best leadership program for girls volunteers, families, staff, board, community, and in the world. The inclusive environment made for finally, YOU! Because of your investment, we are able and led by girls that’s offered by Girl Scouts creates to further our mission of building girls of courage, a safe space where they are free to discover their confidence, and character, who become the best potential and take the lead without the distractions versions of themselves and lead like a Girl Scout. or pressures that accompany a co-ed environment. Yours in Girl Scouting, Girls find the confidence they need to step out of their comfort zone, try new things, and develop leadership skills that they will continue to use throughout their lives. Laura Watson Schultz, Esq. The truth is, Girl Scouts are groundbreakers. Whether Chair, Board of Directors they’re speaking to community leaders about local issues, designing and programming robots, scaling a climbing wall at camp, learning financial literacy through cookie sales, or completing a project that will better their world, they are facing challenges and M. At Girl Scouts, “Can I?” quickly turns into “I will!” as girls transform their ideas into action, turn their questions into adventure, and grow their confidence through practice. And with more than 60 million other G.I.R.L.s to cheer them on every step of the way, there’s no limit to what they can –and will– accomplish. 13 CAMP Highlights

Girl Scouts of North East Ohio Properties Our camp properties provide girls with a place where they feel safe trying something new, exploring the outdoors, and making memories. Like many councils around the country, GSNEO wants to ensure our properties meet the needs and interests of the girls now and in the future. That’s why the Board of Directors established the Master Plan Fund to cover the costs associated with the start-up phase of the Vision 2012 Master Plan. The Master Plan Fund provides for the renovations of Camps Ledgewood, Sugarbush, and Timberlane. As of September 2018, about $11 million has been raised for the Master Plan construction, which includes over $500,000 in contributions and over $800,000 from investment returns generated from the Master Plan Fund. We are excited to report that the Camp Sugarbush and Camp Timberlane portions of the Master Plan have been completed. At the end of the fiscal year, there was approximately $2.8 million remaining to complete projects at Camp Ledgewood.

Camp Sugarbush "Taking care of what we have" was the theme for Sugarbush this year. A rehabilitation of the pool house provided a much needed makeover for this well-used facility along with repairs to the pool fence. Campers enjoyed significant repairs and repainting of the Green Cathedral unit. Roadway ditch repairs along camp roads improved drainage for safer, better maintained roads.

GIRL SCOUTS EMBRACED NEW EXPERIENCES AT ONE OF 14 OUR SUMMER CAMPS CAMP Properties

Camp Ledgewood There were many big changes at Camp Ledgewood with more to come! An investment in a water treatment plant and new water system will ensure a supply of drinking water for years to come while an installed fire suppression system will keep our girls safe. 120 new beds were added at Camp Ledgewood, 80 at the Moss Ledge Cabins and another 40 at the twin Red Oak and White Oak cabins. JOANN Stores donated a beautiful shade structure that will provide protection during sunny days by Lake Loomis, while a new nearby Target Sports Range was built with a grant from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Wildlife. New fencing and other amenities were built to house a flock of hosted sheep, normally residents of the neighboring Spicy Lamb Farm. Camp Timberlane Expenditures on recreation facilities top the list at Camp Timberlane this year! A new Target Shooting Range for archery and riflery was built with a grant from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Wildlife. The first Aqua Climbing Wall at the pool was so popular a second one was donated this year in memory of Bette Mae Jirran, made by her husband, Dr. Raymond Jirran. We also spent significant funds taking care of what we have, with staff prepping and painting the lower section of the Edgewater Program Center and the complete rehabilitation of the exterior and roof of Tall Timbers. Campers will stay warm and cozy with an upgraded heater at the Nar Yurt and cool in the summer with shade provided by a project that transplanted nine 20–25 foot tall trees around the yurt.

United Way of Summit County Girl Scouts of North East Ohio and United Way of Summit County are partnering together to improve educational outcomes for girls in Akron Public Schools. This past year, United Way identified Bold Goals to achieve by 2025, including increasing 3rd grade reading comprehension and preparing high schoolers to graduate and be career ready. GSNEO is helping United Way move the needle by delivering year- round programming to Girl Scouts in Akron Public Schools. This program is supported by United Way, The Mary S. and David C. Corbin Foundation, The Sisler McFawn Foundation, Huntington-Akron Foundation, the Helen S. Robertson Fund of Akron Community Foundation, and the Women’s Endowment Fund of Akron Community Foundation. This year, Girl Scouts in Akron Public Schools completed the new “Think Like an Engineer!” Journey. This Journey is part of the new STEM series and teaches girls the process of designing and creating new things. Girls completed hands-on activities, such as creating tables out of paper that can hold a stack of books, and learned about how engineers contribute to our society. Through this Journey, we’re helping build STEM confidence in young girls and encouraging the next generation of future engineers.
