COLUMBUS BLUE JACKETS ACTIVATE RW OLIVER BJORKSTRAND OFF INJURED RESERVE, ASSIGN F KEVIN STENLUND TO AHL’S

COLUMBUS, OHIO – The have activated right wing Oliver Bjorkstrand off Injured Reserve and assigned forward Kevin Stenlund to the Cleveland Monsters, Columbus’ affiliate, club General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today.

Bjorkstrand, 24, has tallied 12 goals and 11 assists for 23 points with 10 penalty minutes and a +1 plus/minus rating in 36 games this season. He has missed the past 13 contests due to a rib/oblique injury suffered on December 21 vs. New Jersey. At the time of the injury, he led the club in goals (tied), game-winning goals (three, tied), multi-point games (eight) and shots on (122), while ranking third in points.

The Herning, Denmark native was selected by Columbus in the third round, 89th overall, at the 2013 NHL Draft. He has registered 56-64-120 and 33 penalty minutes in 233 career NHL games with the Blue Jackets. During the 2018-19 season, Bjorkstrand notched 23-13-36, eight penalty minutes and was +8 in 77 outings to set a new career high in goals. He has added 3-6-9 in 21 career games in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, including 2-3-5 in 10 outings in 2019.

Stenlund, 23, collected 4-2-6, including three power play goals and one game-winner, in 17 games with Columbus after being recalled from Cleveland on December 15. He has picked up 6-10-16 and 18 penalty minutes in 27 outings with the Monsters this season and has 21-22-43 and 34 penalty minutes in 93 career AHL games since joining the club late in the 2017-18 season.

The Stockholm, Sweden native spent parts of four seasons with HV71 in the from 2014-18, collecting 22-23-45 and 66 penalty minutes in 151 career games. Stenlund was selected by Columbus in the second round, 58th overall, at the 2015 NHL Draft. He made his NHL debut with the Blue Jackets at Washington on Jan. 12, 2019 and collected four penalty minutes in four games with the club last season.

The Blue Jackets return to action tonight when they visit the New York Rangers. Game time from Madison Square Garden is 7 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast live on FOX Sports Ohio and the FOX Sports Go app. Coverage begins at 6:30 p.m. with the “Blue Jackets Live” pre-game show.
