Project Report Brief Description of Solapur Pipeline: Mumbai Pune Sholapur Pipeline (MPSPL- 507 km , Mumbai – Pune section 161 km and Pune – Sholapur section 346 km in length) is a high pressure cross country pipeline of HPCL carrying finished petroleum products of various grades. Mumbai Pune pipeline section was commissioned in the year 1985 and it is being operated round the clock since then. The pipeline passes through terrain like rocky, marshy area, creeks, rivers, highways, populated city areas and western hills. The pipeline starts from the dispatch station at Trombay and ends at Sholapur with Booster Pumping Stations at Vashi, Khopoli, Talegaon and Loni and products are received at Vashi, Pune, Hazarwadi and Pakni. Apart from booster pumping stations the pipeline is provided with intermediate sectionalizing valve stations, which can be closed for isolating the section in case of any exigency. The pipeline is a national asset catering the finished petroleum product requirements of central and western parts of . The pipeline has been designed and operated as per the ASME 31.4, OISD 141 standards and relevant API standards.

Project Proposal:- (Replace of section of Pipeline at Kamothe, ) The existing pipeline has crossed three water streams at Kamothe (Two box culverts and one natural stream) which are part of Creek. Section of the existing pipeline is below the footpath and asphalt driveway of Sion Panvel Highway. To enhance the safety of pipeline it has been proposed to replace section of Mumbai Pune Solapur pipeline. The proposal is to lay new pipeline of higher thickness and higher grade at kamothe to replace the existing old pipeline. Given below are the details of existing pipeline and proposed pipeline:

Existing Pipeline: API 5 LX 46 Grade, Nominal thickness – 7.1 mm Proposed Pipeline; API 5 LX 65 Grade, Nominal Thickness – 9.5 mm Design Pressure: 84 Kg/sq. cm The new pipeline will be laid by HDD method/open cut method parallel to the existing operating pipeline. After hydro-testing at 1.25 times the design pressure the new pipeline section will be hooked up on either side to the existing pipeline.

The breakup of total pipeline length to be replaced i.e.400 mtrs is as under: Pipeline replacement by HDD Method : 250 mtrs Pipeline replacement by Open cut me : 150 mtrs Total Length : 400 mtrs
