PATRICK EAKEN MIRROR SPORTS The Maumee girls soccer team set a school record, scor- ing 104 goals, but that is not the mark of which they are most proud. The Panthers finished the season 13-6-1 and comprise the first girls soccer team in school history to win sectional and district tournaments and quali- fy for regional action. Maumee lost to Celina 1-0 on a 4-3 penalty kick shootout after neither team scored through 80 minutes of regula- tion, nor 30 minutes of two sudden-victory overtime peri- ods during a Division II regional semifinal. The Panthers had outshot the Bulldogs 27-7, but the Western Buckeye League champs did what they had to do to end Maumee’s season. For first-year coach Holly Hamilton, a 2005 MHS gradu- ate who played club soccer at Bowling Green State University, it was an incredible ride. She says her girls did what they had to do, too, when they Maumee’s girls soccer team were regional qualifiers this year and finished up with a solid 13-6-1 record. • July 24, 2020 This Morning, the Ohio Athletic Conference Presidents
July 24, 2020 This morning, the Ohio Athletic Conference Presidents Council voted unanimously to postpone all NCAA intercollegiate athletic competition through December 31, 2020, amid the continued and growing concern of COVID-19. The fall sports that have intercollegiate competition postponed include cross country, football, golf, soccer, tennis, and volleyball. The winter-season sports of basketball, indoor track and field, swimming and diving, and wrestling also will have intercollegiate competition postponed during the 2020 calendar year. The OAC is committed to moving NCAA intercollegiate competition to the spring, with various models currently being discussed. (Read the OAC’s statement here.) OAC Commissioner Tim Gleason provided these thoughts: “The OAC believes we can continue to provide an excellent experience for our student-athletes, while continuing to make the health and safety of our student-athletes, coaches, staffs, families, fans, and campus communities our highest priority.” Heidelberg coaches communicated the news to their respective teams shortly after the OAC’s decision this morning. Now, they turn their attention to helping our student-athletes successfully navigate these new limitations and the associated new opportunities this fall. I want to express my tremendous respect and appreciation for Athletic Director Matt Palm and all of our head coaches and their assistant coaches in supporting all of our student-athletes through this challenging pandemic. While competition will not occur in Fall 2020, the OAC is working with Heidelberg and all of its member institutions to plan a robust engagement of student-athletes during the fall semester with conditioning and preparation for spring competition according to CDC guidelines and NCAA criteria in conjunction with local health guidelines.

Nordonia football stuns Tigers by Steve Batko | Correspondent ~ Twinsburg Bulletin First-year Nordonia football coach Jeff Fox had nothing to say about himself after his squad after a 36-12 win over rival Twinsburg in the third annual Bob Evans Backyard Brawl Aug. 31 at Twinsburg Tiger Stadium. But Fox had plenty to say about his team. "This is not about me," said Fox. "I think this is a huge win for the program, and for these kids," he stressed. "Twinsburg is a big cross-town rival and our kids battled." Twinsburg, which lost 28 seniors to graduation, moved to 0-2 as this was their first game since All-Ohio back John Barton had a season-ending knee injury. Costly turnovers, mistakes and penalties riddled the Tigers. Nordonia (1-1) came in hungry after a heartbreaking one-point overtime loss to Mayfield. "We just did not execute in all phases of the game," said Twinsburg coach Joe Schiavone. "This is a good football team, but we have to become a better team and stop shooting ourselves in the foot." Leading 19-6 at halftime, the Knights had many big plays on offense and cashed in two Tiger turnovers into 13 points. Twinsburg senior free safety Cooper Rea had an interception on the first play of the game. After new Tiger tailback Tyrone McGuinea just broke two tackles to convert a first down on fourth-and-1, senior Jalen Washington passed to Mike Peelman to move Twinsburg to the Knight 1-yard line. However, the play was called back due to a holding penalty, The Tigers' next possession saw a Washington pass get tipped and Nordonia senior Ben Halkowski grabbed the loose ball.

The initial complaint (#15-11-1080) was filed against the Wooster City School District (District) on January 24, 2011. The complainant alleged that the District denied a student with a disability (the Student), who uses a wheelchair, an equal opportunity to participate on the District’s middle school track team during the 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 school years. On December 30, 2011, OCR opened a related complaint (#15-12-4010) against the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA), as OCR determined that OHSAA, as the organization responsible for setting athletic participation rules for the District and an entity involved in the District’s alleged denial of equal opportunity to the Student, was a necessary party to the resolution of the complaint against the District.
