Odrisamer Despaigne pitched no-hit baseball through 7.2 innings this afternoon, the longest no-hit bid by the Padres since Aaron Harang, Josh Spence, Chad Qualls and Mike Adams combined to throw 8.0 no-hit innings on July 9, 2011 at Los Angeles…it was the longest individual no-hit effort for the Padres since Chris Young also went 7.2 no-hit innings against the Brewers in Milwaukee on September 7, 2008 before Gabe Kapler homered with two-outs in the eighth inning…it was the longest individual no-hit effort by the Padres at home since Chris Young threw 8.1 no-hit innings against the Pirates on September 22, 2006 before Joe Randa homered in the ninth. o Today was tied for the fifth-longest no-hit bid in Padres franchise history…joining the instances above, Andy Ashby went 8.0 innings of no-hit ball on September 5, 1997 vs. Atlanta (Kenny Lofton Single), Steve Arlin went 8.2 innings of no-hit baseball on July 18, 1972 vs. Philadelphia (Denny Doyle single) and Clay Kirby + Jack Baldschun went 8.0 innings on July 21, 1970 vs. New York-NL (Bud Harrelson single) o After today’s performance, has pitched 6.0 or more innings in all five of his career games and allowed one run or less in four of those five games, the first pitcher in Padres franchise history to accomplish that feat… since 1914, only six other Major League pitchers have thrown 6.0 or more innings and allowed one or fewer runs four or more times in their first five career games: NYY Cliff Markle in 1915-16 (4), BOS Dave Ferriss in 1945 (4), OAK John Henry Johnson in 1978 (4), STL Andy Rincon in 1980-81 (4), CIN Tom Browning in 1984-85 (4) and PHI Pat Combs in 1989 (4). o Despaigne has also gone 6.0 or more innings and allowed two or less runs in all five of his career starts, the first pitcher in Padres franchise history to accomplish that feat…he’s also the 10th Major League pitcher since 1914 to accomplish this feat and the fifth National Leaguer to do so. o Since making his Major League debut on June 23, Despaigne owns the eighth-lowest ERA in Major League Baseball (1.31) and sixth-lowest in the National League.
