    Book of Proceedings AIESEP 2011 International Conference 22-25 June 2011 University of Limerick, Ireland Moving People, Moving Forward 1 INTRODUCTION We are delighted to present the Book of Proceedings that is the result of an open call for submitted papers related to the work delegates presented at the AIESEP 2011 International Conference at the University of Limerick, Ireland on 22-25 June, 2011. The main theme of the conference Moving People, People Moving focused on sharing contemporary theory and discussing cutting edge research, national and international policies and best practices around motivating people to engage in school physical education and in healthy lifestyles beyond school and into adulthood and understanding how to sustain engagement over time. Five sub-themes contributed to the main theme and ran throughout the conference programme, (i) Educating Professionals who Promote Physical Education, Sport and Physical Activity, (ii) Impact of Physical Education, Sport &Physical Activity on the Individual and Society, (iii) Engaging Diverse Populations in Physical Education, Physical Activity and Sport, (iv) Physical Activity & Health Policies: Implementation and Implications within and beyond School and (v) Technologies in support of Physical Education, Sport and Physical Activity. The papers presented in the proceedings are not grouped by themes but rather by the order they were presented in the conference programme. The number that precedes each title matches the number on the conference programme. We would like to sincerely thank all those who took the time to complie and submit a paper. Two further outlets of work related to the AIESEP 2011 International Conference are due out in 2012.

    LIST OF APPROVED MODELS OF FRAMES AND FORKS Version on 11.08.2016 The Approval Procedure of bicycle frames and came into force on 1 January 2011 in accordance with Article 1.3.001bis of the UCI Regulations. From this date, all new models of frames and forks used by licence holders in road (RD), time trial (TT), track (TR) and cyclo-cross (CX) events must be approved on the basis of the Approval Protocol for Frames and Forks available from the UCI website. Approval by the UCI certifies that the new equipment meets the shape requirements set out in the UCI regulations. However, this approval does not certify in any case the safety of the equipment which must meet the applicable official quality and safety standards, in accordance with Article 1.3.002 of the UCI regulations. The models which are subject to the approval procedure are: all new models of frames and forks used by licence holders in road, track or cyclo-cross events, all models of frames and forks under development on 1 January 2011 which had not yet reached the production stage (the date of the order form of the moulds is evidence), any changes made to the geometry of existing models after 1 January 2011. Models on the market, at the production stage or already manufactured on 1 January 2011 are not required to be approved during the transition stage. However, the non-approved models have to comply in any case with the UCI technical regulations (Articles 1.3.001 to 1.3.025) and are subjects to the commissaires decision during events.

    Organizational Forms in Professional Cycling – Efficiency Issues of the UCI Pro Tour Luca Rebeggiani§ * Davide Tondani DISCUSSION PAPER NO. 345 First Version: August 2006 This Version: July 2007 ISSN: 0949–9962 ABSTRACT: This paper gives a first economic approach to pro cycling and analyses the changes induced by the newly introduced UCI Pro Tour on the racing teams’ behaviour. We develop an oligopolistic model starting from the well known Cournot framework to analyse if the actual setting of the UCI Pro Tour leads to a partially unmeant behaviour of the racing teams. In particular, we show that the blamed regional concentration of their race participation depends on a lack of incentives stemming from the licence assignation procedure. Our theo- retical results are supported by empirical data concerning the performance of the racing teams in 2005 and 2006. As a recommendation for future improvements, we derive from the model the need for a relegation system for racing teams. ZUSAMMENFASSUNG: Der Aufsatz stellt die erste ökonomische Analyse des professionellen Radsports dar. Er analysiert insbesondere die Anreizwirkungen der neuen UCI Pro Tour auf Teams und Fahrer. Ausgehend von dem bekannten Cournot-Ansatz entwickeln wir ein einfaches Oligopol-Modell, um zu untersuchen, ob die der- zeitige Pro Tour-Organisation zu einem unerwünschten Verhalten der Teilnehmer führt. Wir zeigen, dass insbe- sondere das Problem der geographischen Konzentration der Rennteilnahmen der Teams von den mangelnden Anreizen abhängt, die vom jetzigen Lizenzvergabesystem ausgehen. Unsere theoretischen Ergebnisse werden durch empirische Daten aus der Pro Tour 2005 und 2006 gestützt. Als Empfehlung für zukünftige Entwicklun- gen leiten wir aus dem Modell die Notwendigkeit einer Öffnung der Pro Tour ab, mit Auf- und Abstiegsmög- lichkeiten für Rennteams.

At the elite level, improved individual performance during a tournament or a game is vital. Many athletes consider that compression of muscles to support, enhance muscle alignment and improve the efficiency of muscle movements is essential. They also adopt the adage of strapping the injured part to assist recovery from injury. In recent years, there has been an increase in usage and demand for compression garments for a 1 number of sportswear applications and recreational activities due to their ability to offer functional support to the wearer. The main aim of this chapter is to present research relating to compression garments and highlight the recent developments relating to specific sports such as cycling, skiing and rugby. The benefits of compression garments were documented in various settings (sports, clinical and non-clinical), although convincing evidence remains elusive. The reported benefits of using compression garments were mainly in enhancing blood circulation, reducing the recurrence of injury, aiding recovery, providing muscle support and reducing muscle soreness.
