View Call Lists: Westminster Hall PDF File 0.05 MB Issued on: 16 December at 2.15pm Call lists for Westminster Hall Thursday 17 December 2020 A list of Members physically present to participate in 60- and 90-minute Westminster Hall debates. 30-minute debates do not have a call list. All Members wishing to speak in the debate must be present from the beginning of the debate. For 60-minute and 90-minute debates, only Members on the call list will be called to speak, and they will be generally called in the order they appear on the call list, subject to discretion of the Chair. Members who are not on the call list are permitted to attend debates provided that they do not take a place on the horseshoe which would prevent a Member on the call list having access to the horseshoe. Members not on the call list may attend to listen to debates or intervene, but will not be called to give a speech. Members must make interventions from the horseshoe and not the public gallery. For 30-minute debates, there will not be a call list. Members may attend to intervene or make a short speech. Members wishing to make a speech should follow existing conventions about contacting the Member in charge of the debate, the Speaker’s Office [email protected]( ) and the Minister. If sittings are suspended for divisions in the House, additional time is added. Call lists are compiled and published incrementally as information becomes available.     HENRY SMITH MP HOUSE OF COMMONS LONDON SW1A 0AA Rt Hon Rishi Sunak MP Chancellor of the Exchequer HM Treasury 1 Horse Guards Road London SW1A 2HQ 13th July 2021 Dear Chancellor We are writing to you as a group of cross-party MPs and Peers to urge you to extend the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme for workers in the aviation, travel and tourism industries until March 2022 in order to prevent significant job losses when the scheme is due to close in September. As you will know, our aviation, travel and tourism sectors were the first to be impacted as a consequence of COVID-19, with passenger numbers collapsing from March 2020 and with recovery likely to take a number of years, these will also be one of the last sectors to recover. The consequences on our aviation, travel and tourism sectors have been devastating, with businesses seeing little or no revenue for over fifteen months, significant job losses and the risk of business failure remaining a real risk. However, with the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme due to close in September, we run the very real risk of a major jobs crisis in the industry. The latest ONS statistics show that 57% of employees in passenger air transport and 51% of those employed by travel agency and tour operators remain on furlough. With a lost summer season coming on top of the worst fifteen months in the history of UK aviation, without the continuing support of the CJRS the risk of significant redundancies will become a stark and devastating reality.

This was sadly a necessary measure to tackle a serious health emergency and protect the UK from the spread of new variants of COVID-19. It will however cause the effective end of all international travel and is a devastating blow to the aviation, travel, and tourism industries, those working in the sector and the communities who depend on them. These have been amongst the hardest hit of our economy and have suffered unprecedented losses, with passenger numbers at historically low levels even during the peak summer season. As an island nation, our aviation, travel, and tourism sectors are integral to our economy and are major employers throughout the UK. They will also be a vital part of our economic recovery from the pandemic when it is safe to do so. It is therefore essential that action is taken now to provide further protection for these businesses, their supply chains, employees, and communities. We therefore urge you to work with all in and associated with these industries to introduce a full and comprehensive ‘Aviation, Travel and Tourism Recovery Package’ that will provide immediate financial and additional support alongside a pathway to allow aviation to come out of these restrictions when safe to do so.

Over half of these voters also told us they hadn’t heard from any of the parties in the last year, despite candidates gearing up for a general election campaign. It is probably not surprising that 60 per cent of these forgotten voters told us that “no political party really cares about helping people like me”. The coming general election needs to be about more than Brexit if it is going to address the issues that face low-income Britain. Whether you voted leave or remain in 2016, our analysis shows that any political party will struggle to win a working majority if they fail to connect with the poorest voters across Britain and demonstrate that tackling poverty is a top priority.
