Bridge Over Troubled Water is a song by American duo Simon and Garfunkel from their 1970 fifth studio album Bridge Over Troubled Water. William Ruhlmann, in his review of Bridge Over Troubled Water on AllMusic, describes it as the most celebrated song in the career of famed songwriter Paul Simon and the most successful song of the very successful 1960s duet, Simon and Garfunkel. In the United States, the song peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100. It was the third song in the career of the duo Simon and Garfunkel, reaching 1 place (after The Sound of Silence and Mrs. Robinson). It was also the last to be last. In 2004, Rolling Stone magazine ranked Bridge over Troubled Water by Simon and Garfunkel at number 47 on its list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. The song is ranked 48th on the 2011 list. It is also part of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 500 Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll. A charity single was recorded in the UK after the tragic fire at London's Grenfell Tower, where dozens of its occupants died. The event was organized by music producer Simon Cowell, who arranged for a new version of the song next to Sarm West Studios. In total, about 50 musicians took part in the recording, On June 21, they teamed up under the name Artists for Grenfell. Performers included Robbie Williams, Geri Halliwell (from the Spice Girls), James Blunt, Liam Payne (from One Direction), Stormzy, Louise Johnson (winner of The X Factor), Emeli Sande, Pixie Lott, Rita Ora, Leon Lewis, Tulisa Contostavlos, Raye, Kelly Jones (lead singer of stereophonics). The guitar section was composed by legendary guitarists Brian May, Mayne Rogers and Pete Townsend (The Who). The first-day single sold 120,000 copies, the best result of the first day of release in the 2010s. The single ended up number one on the UK Singles Chart on June 23, 2017.     1 FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE IN BLUNT’S SONGS Putu Ayu Dessy Indriana Lestari Non Regular Program - English Department, Faculty of Letters Udayana University Abstrak Makalah ini berjudul Bahasa Kiasan pada lima lirik lagu yang diciptakan oleh James Blunt. Lagu pertama berjudul “Goodbye My Lover” dirilis pada bulan Desember 2005 dalam album pertama mereka Back to Bedlam. Yang kedua adalah “High” yang dirilis pada tahun 2006 dari album Back to Bedlam. Yang ketiga adalah "No Bravery" yang dirilis pada tahun 2007 dari album Back to Bedlam. Lagu ketiga berjudul “So Happy” dari album All the Lost Soul dan lagu terakhir adalah "Tears and Rain" dari album Back to Bedlam. Penelitian yang berkaitan dengan bahasa kiasan ini dalam lirik lagu karya James Blunt bertujuan untuk mengetahui jenis-jenis bahasa kiasan yang digunakan dalam dan menganalisa makna bahasa kiasan yang terkandung dalam lirik lagu tersebut. Data secara langsung diperoleh dari lima lagu karya James Blunt sebagai sumber data dan dianggap sebagai data primer. Teori utama yang dipergunakan adalah dari buku yang ditulis oleh Knickerbocker dan Reninger (1963) yang berjudul Interpreting Literature. Kemudian teori lainnya diusulkan oleh Leech (1974), Larson (1984), serta Morner dan Rausch (1991). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada tujuh jenis bahasa kiasan yang ditemukan dalam empat lagu yaitu personifikasi, hiperbola, simile, ironi, metonimia, metafora mati dan metafora. Di antara jenis kiasan yang disajikan dalam penelitian ini, hiperbola dan personifikasi yang paling sering muncul dalam empat dari lirik lagu karya James Blunt. 1. It was originally used in an eighth grade classroom, but may be adapted for younger or older students. Its intent is to help students see language as the tool of the powerful and learn to wield the power of the spoken and written word in the name of change for the better. The goal is for students to become aware of the discrepancies and discrimination that surround them as well as to find their own voices and the courage to speak out and take action. The Language is Power course includes several interrelated types of learning: activating background knowledge and putting the persuasive basics in place; exploring the texts of others to understand how language is power; exploring and understanding society and self; and synthesizing and creating in the name of change. The lessons are designed to meet Wisconsin state standards for eighth grade language arts, social studies, and may meet other states’ standards as well. The relevant Wisconsin standards are included for reference. The curriculum includes four basic units that comprise the lessons, as shown below.
