The talk given at the Shepparton Library by James McKinnon on “Wills, Probates and Letters of Administration” was very in- formative and enjoyed by all who attended the seminar. More interesting and informative events are to be held during the next year and these include the GMAGS Expo on 17th November at Mulwala and the visit by the Mornington Peninsular Family History Society early next year.     The Productive Plains The Productive Plains SES is located across the lower slopes and plains of the central Goulburn Broken Catchment and includes the towns of Nagambie, Euroa, Violet Town, Dookie and Tungamah. The area’s abundant food and water resources were first used by the Yorta Yorta and Taungurung Clans and the region’s many cultural sites indicate its importance to Traditional Owners . Since European settlement, land-use change has included clearing for farming, gold rushes, the post-1930s farm mechanisation boom and the wool boom of the 1950s. Agricultural land-use is highly valued in this area for the economic and social services it provides. There is also high value placed on the remaining native vegetation, on land and along waterways for the ecosystem and social services it contributes to. The future aspiration for the Productive Plains is to integrate productive capacity with ecological function and maintain social networks. Working on Solid Foundations Effort to sustain and restore the natural environment that underpins our way of life is by no means new. The area’s landholders have worked with a range of stakeholders to maintain and improve region’s land, water and biodiversity assets over the years. While acknowledging this effort there is also recognition building the region’s resilience to adapt to current and future drivers of change is an ongoing challenge. The Challenges Ahead The ageing primary producer demographic suggests there could be significant land ownership or management changes over the next few decades, although it is very uncertain what land-use changes will result. Social capital, in the form of the community-based workforce, might also decline as long-term community members leave the SES or are no longer able to continue.

No attempt has been made to edit the text in this document, only to put it in a new format, with sketches scanned in as images and photographs placed where appropriate. Scattered through the document are notes by the author explaining something, sometimes preceded by G.W.E., the initials of the author. All first-person comments are those of the author An History of Violet Town Introduction My interest in St. Dunstan's history grew out of reading Mwley Crocker's (and friends) "A Short History (of) Saint Dunstan's Church, Violet Town. In its brevity it left all sorts of questions unanswered; and his own remark that it ought to be enlarged and added to encouraged me to investigations of my own. If in what follows I refer to his work only to seemingly show up its errors - not so; it is only because it was this book that I started my inquiries from. In any case, it seems only fair to explain why I differ from what he gathered in good faith and what has been read by many. He begins by setting the life of St Dunstan's in the context of the township of Violet Town and its origins; and I follow him in that, beginning with what might be called Violet Town's pre-history. 1, "PRE-HISTORY:" (a) begins with the aborigines of the area; but at this stage I know nothing about them except for the attack on the Faithfull stock convoy as it passed through (now) Benalla on its way south.

S. Davidson, the original papers deal with the Natives of Australia as a whole. These have been included because they contain also Victorian material. The present writer has seen most of the works here enumerated but some Kara Avis he has not seen are included because reference to them is made by reliable Authors. The Author hopes that nothing of any importance has been overlooked. If it has, he would be interested to hear about it.
