THE ART COUPLE by Brendan Hunt ● directed by Lauren Van Kurin

OPENING FEBRUARY 16, 2018 Fri-Sat @ 8pm * Sun @ 7pm | Previews: Fri-Sat, Feb. 9-10 @ 8pm

WORLD PREMIERE! Long before Felix met Oscar, Vincent Van Gogh and Paul Gauguin were ill-fitting roommates in the south of France; a fateful co-habitation that would change the face of art - and Van Gogh's face, too. It's a lesser-known tidbit of theatre history that these two masters were also the subjects of Neil Simon's original draft of "The Odd Couple." Sacred Fools now presents the first-ever performance of this abandoned script, and the odd tale of how it was written. Performing in the Broadwater Black Box.

AKUMA-SHIN by Kenley Smith ● directed by Scott Leggett

OPENING MARCH 30, 2018 Fri-Sat @ 8pm * Sun @ 7pm | Previews: Fri-Sat, March 23-24 @ 8pm

WORLD PREMIERE! In 1956, a giant kaiju (monster) destroys Tokyo and sends seismic waves of fear, anger and ignorance through generations. Facts are questioned, history is alternatively written and modern politics is set against primal religion in this ferociously civilized cautionary tale of two nations coping with their own damaged legacies. Can humanity reckon with the monsters that rise against us, the ones that live within us all? Performing on the Broadwater Mainstage.

DISASTEROID! by Zachary Bernstein ● directed by Guy Picot

Late-Night Fridays, April 6, 13 & 20

When tax auditor and amateur astronomer Edgley is misled by scientific authorities to believe a giant asteroid is weeks away from destroying the Earth, he departs his humdrum life for adventure. Along with his philanthropist married client Mabel, they roam the planet in search of love, life, and the meaning of the universe. Performing in the Broadwater Black Box.

THE SACRED LAB Project #2: Sun-Mon, April 22-23 (Broadwater Second Stage) Project #3: Thurs, May 3 & Sun, May 6 (Broadwater Black Box)

The Sacred Lab is Sacred Fools' new development program and works in two ways: as a Project workshop or as a Director workshop. Artistically, it provides company member playwrights, directors and actors the resources to learn, experiment and gain experience. The workshop also allows the artists to kick the proverbial tires on a specific play in development by producing an elaborate staged reading with some fully staged scenes, thereby examining both the theatricality and design elements as well as future production potential. The Sacred Lab premiered in November of 2017 with The Last Twelve Years of Phineas Gage. Watch SacredFools.org for announcements about upcoming Lab projects!

For more info and more shows TBA, keep watching SacredFools.org!

Past designs include Minnesota Opera’s Das Rheingold; Opera Parallèle's Dead Man Walking, Champion, Flight and Trouble in Tahiti; the American premieres of Anya 17 and Heart of Darkness; and the world premieres of Luis Valdez’ Valley of the Heart and Jake Heggie’s Out of Darkness. Recent credits include Philip Glass’ Les Enfants Terribles, the revival of Zoot Suit at the Mark Taper Forum, and Gordon Getty’s Scare Pair at the Kaye Playhouse in New York. David also teaches projection design at the University of California, Irvine and works in Los Angeles as an independent film director.

Lindsey Newell (Assistant Director) received her Bachelor's of Fine Arts in Acting with a year of studies in Directing from the University of Oklahoma. While focused primarily on acting in Los Angeles, she enjoys directing and writing as it challenges her to approach characters and this art form from a different perspective. Since moving to L.A. Lindsey has written and produced a short film, The Story Told, and a web series, Marsh & Ruby. Her theatre credits include: Catalyst (HFF 2015), Midsummer Night's Dream, She Kills Monsters, and Wanting Miss Julie, all at LOFT ensemble. "I am thrilled to be working with Sacred Fools for the first time and couldn't be more pumped to flex a new muscle than with this incredible show and its cast."

Laura Napoli (Fight Choreographer) Laura's L.A. fight choreography credits include Miravel, Hamlet Shut Up, Land of the Tigers and Savin’ Up For Saturday Night (all world premieres), as well as Hamlet, There Is a Happiness That Morning Is and several episodes of Serial Killers. For this former NCAA Division I fencer, the pen is as mighty as the sword... she is a freelance writer (promos, marketing campaigns, taglines) and writes on- the-spot when performing with The Go Game team building company.

Lisa Anne Nicolai (Prop Designer)In addition to designing props for this production, Lisa Anne has worked with Sacred Fools in many capacities including acting, writing, producing and costuming. Other prop design credits for this company include The Sirens of Titan, Past Time, Candide, the multiple award winning The Behavior of Broadus, Live! From the Last Night Of My Life, Crumble (Lay Me Down Justin Timberlake), Saving Up For Saturday Night, A Kind of Love Story and the remount of The Magic Bullet Theory at The Matrix. Thank you for coming out and supporting small theatre in Los Angeles.

Angela Santori Merritt (Hair & Makeup) is so excited to be returning to Sacred Fools, where she recently spearheaded the makeup, beards and wigs for Sirens of Titan. She may be the new kid here but is not green to the theater scene, working as Hair and Makeup Designer for Loft Ensemble Theater Company, on shows including King Lear, Long Joan Silver and the Ovation Award Winning She Kills Monsters. Special Effects Makeup has been Angela’s passion for years, with short films, weddings, special events and headshots on her resume, and earlier this year she received her Media Makeup and Beauty Certification from the South Bay L.A. Makeup Institute. Big Shout Out to Tifanie McQueen for trusting and being the rock that she is! Check out her Instagram @angelasantorimua

Lily Sorenson (Sound Designer) is delighted to work with Sacred Fools for the first time. A Bay Area based director and sound designer, Lily received her degree in Theatre Arts from UC Santa Cruz. She has also trained with NHSI, Trinity College, NUI Galway and worked with many theaters in California including Magic Theatre, A.C.T., Z Space, and Son of Semele. Lily is a founding member of The Attic Collective in Los Angeles and is a proponent of new, experimental, and devised theatrical work. She hopes you enjoy tonight’s performance!

Shawna Voragen (Stage Manager) is a Los Angeles based stage manager making her debut appearance at Sacred Fools, after SMing the acclaimed remount of Citizen: An American Lyric as part of CTG’s inaugural Block Party. Shawna holds a BA in Theatre from Cal State Northridge and also spent a year at sea working on cruise ships. Her favorite stage management credits include In the Red and Brown Water, Avenue Q, Jewtopia, Dead Man's Cell Phone, Next to Normal, and, most recently, 33 Variations. Shawna is pleased and proud to be joining forces with such creative artists. Special thanks to Rosie for the opportunity to bring order to the madness and to Marianne for her unconditional love and support.

Ellen Warkentine (Musical Director) is a theatrical multi-instrumentalist performer and composer based in Los Angeles. She is a long-time collaborator with the Ovation-award winning Four Larks Theatre. She is co-creator and composer of the absurd “fauxpera" LOLPERA and has written music, performed, and musical directed for productions at The Garage Theatre in Long Beach, The Long Beach Playhouse, RIOTStage, Upright Citizen’s Brigade, and Four Clowns. Thank you Sacred Fools for inviting me to create patriotic propaganda sister-wife hymns for the future.
