Tuesday, October 1 10:00-11:15 a.m. Break Out Sessions Bumble Bee Atlas and Outdoor Science (.1 CEU) Regents C Katie Lamke, Bumble Bee Conservation Specialist for The Xerces Society Bumble bees play an important role in sustaining the health of our environment by pollinat- ing flowers in natural and urban areas, and by contributing to successful harvests. To help further our understanding of, and conservation efforts for, bumble bees, the Xerces Society has launched the Bumble Bee Atlas. This community science project offers locals the opportunity to work alongside researchers to collect data that will shed light on the dis- tribution, status, and habitat needs of Nebraska’s bumble bees.

Advanced Oxidation Process Technology (.1 CEU) Regents E and F Tom Schaefer, Technical Sales Director of Clear Comfort,

AOP technology is the latest improvement in providing superior air and water. AOP uses hydroxyl radicals to lower the pollution level in the filtered water. The demand for chlorine is reduced and the chlorine used is more powerful, having a higher Oxidation Reduction Potential (ORP). The cost to add the technology is half of more conventional supplemental / secondary technologies, allowing for a significantly greater impact on public health.

Park Sustainability, Tree Canopy and Biodiversity (.1 CEU) Regents D Justin Evertson, Green Infrastructure Coordinator, Nebraska Forest Service

Session will cover several tree and landscape related topics to help make parks and public green spaces more sustainable. Topics will include dealing with Emerald Ash Borer; why trees are important; the value of biodiversity and rough edges; how to start a simple arbore tum; and being water wise.

John Breslow Center welcomes not just hockey players but figure skaters, broomball enthusiasts and is home ice for UNL men’s and women’s club hockey teams Peterson Park includes a dog park, six dedicated pickleball courts with plans to add four more courts, and other amenities. Union Plaza is a three-block urban park constructed as part of the Antelope Valley flood and roadway project. The six acre park contains water features, festival space, trail connections, artwork, and children’s play area.

Understand the difference between emotional support and service animals. Rights and responsibilities of people with disabilities who use service animals; Know the rights and responsibilities of Title II entities (state and local government) regarding service animals; Understand the difference between restriction and removal of service animals; Be able to apply ADA guidelines regarding service animals to real-life situations.

The ecology of a river is important as well. This session will share examples of how cities across the Midwest have reinvigorated their Cities by providing access to the water. Various sized rivers and streams will be highlighted.
