  • Commonly Encountered Boxing Styles Are
6 COMMON STYLES OF BOXERS BY BOBBY MAYNE - May 23, 2019 Commonly encountered six types of boxers / Pictured: Rob Powdrill | Pic: FIGHTMAG A boxer’s individual style has evolved from technical skills continually practiced in the gym along with physical and psychological attributes. Physical attributes include height, build and reach and psychological can be aggressive or defensive in nature when competing. Commonly encountered boxing styles are 1. Swarmer – aggressive 2. Out-boxer – defensive 3. Slugger – both aggressive and defensive 4. Boxer Puncher – both aggressive and defensive 5. The Counterpuncher – both aggressive and defensive 6. The Southpaw – both aggressive and defensive 1. Swarmer The Swarmer also known as ‘the Crowder’ keeps momentum moving forward with a high rate of punches to close the range and wear an opponent down with pressure of a non-stop work rate. The Swarmer is extremely fit and well-conditioned to keep up this constant pressure tactic for the duration of the bout. Famous Swarmers: Ricky Hatton, Erik Morales, Nigel Benn, Micky Ward 2. Out-boxer The Out-boxer will keep an opponent at the end of their reach with long punches such as the Jab. This tactic controls distance and scores with long punches with much footwork movement to avoid being scored upon. Offensive tactics are calculated, keeping at arm’s length range picking their shots when openings occur or luring opponent to attack and with perfect timing unload a counterpunch. Famous Out-boxers: Muhammad Ali, Wladimir Klitschko, Lennox Lewis, Larry Holmes 3. Slugger The Slugger style relies on the strength and power of punches to win the bout, rather than on strategy and a well-placed punches.

  • Happy 2Nd Anniversary to Superhero Manny Pacquiao!
HAPPY 2ND ANNIVERSARY TO SUPERHERO MANNY PACQUIAO! HOLLYWOOD, CALIFORNIA (July 20, 2021) -- As we look forward to the showdown between eight-division world champion and boxer laureate Senator Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao and unified WBC/IBF welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr., which is 32 days away, it seems only fitting to look back at Manny's thrilling victory over then undefeated WBA welterweight "super" champion Keith Thurman, which took place two years ago today in Las Vegas. Manny opened the fight with a first-round knockdown of Thurman en route to a 12-round split decision victory. As Thurman accurately stated in his post-fight interview, "It was a night of blessings and lessons." Manny's victory over Thurman was a career highlight for boxing's longest and most successful partnership. For 20 years, Manny has had his trainer, world-famous Freddie Roach, in his corner, literally and figuratively, winning world titles in seven different weight divisions in a career of firsts that not only defines the champion he repeatedly became, but the Filipino spirit which has been embraced by the world. During those the past 20 years, Manny has played David to a roster of Hall of Fame Goliaths, scoring the most impressive victories of his era against the likes of Erik Morales, Marco Antonio Barrera, Juan Manuel Márquez, Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton, Miguel Cotto, and Shane Mosley. In his last three fights, which took place during a 12-month period, from July 15, 2018 through July 20, 2019, Manny ran the table, winning welterweight world title fights against Lucas Matthysse, Adrien Broner, and Thurman.

Ct. No. BC317258) v. MARCO ANTONIO BARRERA et al., Defendants and Respondents. APPEAL from a judgment of the Superior Court of Los Angeles County. Paul Gutman, Judge. Affirmed. Carlsmith Ball, LLP and James E. Blancarte for Plaintiff and Appellant. Matheny Sears Linkert & Long and Eric R. Wiesel for Defendants and Respondent. __________________________________ A boxing manager is defined by California law as any person who undertakes to represent in any way the interest of a professional boxer with respect to the arrangement or conduct of any professional boxing contest, or any person who directs or controls the activities of any professional boxer. A contract to manage a professional boxer must be in writing, and managers must be licensed by the State Athletic Commission (the commission). Plaintiff and appellant Jose Castillo filed a complaint alleging defendant and respondent Marco Antonio Barrera, a professional boxer and two-time world champion, breached an oral agreement for Castillo to manage Barrera’s career. The trial court granted summary judgment in favor of Barrera, and defendants and respondents Barrera Promotions, Inc. and Marco Antonio Boxing, Inc., on the basis that Castillo was not a licensed manager and his pleading of an oral agreement with Barrera was a binding judicial admission. We reject Castillo’s appellate challenge to the grant of summary judgment and affirm. ALLEGATIONS IN CASTILLO’S COMPLAINT Castillo’s complaint alleged three causes of action—breach of contract, fraudulent inducement to enter a contract, and quantum meruit.

  • Two-Year Doping Ban for Erik Morales
Two-Year Doping Ban For Erik Morales Mexican professional boxer Érik Isaac Morales Elvira has received a doping ban of two years after he twice tested positive for the banned substance, Clenbuterol last October, prior to his junior welterweight bout with Danny Garcia, according to the United States Anti-Doping Agency. The 36-year-old Erik Morales was knocked out by Danny Garcia at Brooklyn's Barclays Center on October 20 and it was argued by the critics that the fight should have been cancelled, while the debate about the doping policies of boxing raged anew. Boxers are not subject to a uniform drug- testing policy as the sport has no national governing body. Before the fight, both the boxers agreed to be tested by USADA and signed a contract that stipulates any adjudication process must go through the agency. The legal process was still ongoing despite the New York State Athletic Commission was notified 24 hours in advance of the Garcia-Morales bout regarding the positive drug test results of Morales. The fight was allowed by NYSAC even though Morales, the first Mexican-born boxer in history to win world titles in four different weight classes, tested positive for Clenbuterol on October 3 and 10. A portion of USADA's statement reads professional boxing does not have a universally- implemented, WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) accredited anti-doping program, and as a result of the lack of effective testing, many professional boxers and event organizers have contracted with USADA to conduct comprehensive anti-doping programs prior to and during their fights.
