Kim (PRK) sets championship record, Chen breaks world records

· Kim Un Guk (PRK) extended his record gold medal haul in the men's 62kg to eight and his total medal amount in this weight division to 15 as he won gold in the Snatch and silver in the Clean & Jerk and Total. · That last achievement saw him beat the record total by (IRI, 14) who was the only lifter with more medals at world championships since the current categories were implemented in 1998. · Kim has now won the last five world titles in Snatch and became the second lifter after Li Hongli (CHN) to claim five consecutive gold medals in Snatch in a specific weight category. Li took five Snatch golds in a row between 2002 and 2007 in men's 77kg. · Kim became the first lifter to win at least one medal in this event in five different world championships. · (CHN) won the Total world title in 2013 and the Clean & Jerk and Total this year. He won those last events in world record breaking fashion improving the mark of 182 by Le Maosheng (CHN) at the 2002 to 183 and improving the total of 332 by Kim Un Guk at the to 333. · Chen became the third lifter after Kim and Qiu Le (CHN) to claim multiple gold medals in Total in this category.
