There are 11 singles matches in the top half of the draw and 16 singles matches in the bottom half. Three of the Top 6 players are in action with No. 2 and three-time US Open champion Rafael Nadal, No. 5 Daniil Medvedev and No. 6 Alexander Zverev. Nadal and Zverev, who are the two highest seeds remaining in the bottom half of the draw after four Top 10 seeds lost on Tuesday, are projected to meet in the quarter-finals if they win their next three matches. Nadal takes on Aussie wild card Thanasi Kokkinakis, who is trying to reach the 3R in a Grand Slam tournament for the first time since 2015 Roland Garros. Nadal is 12-2 in US Open 2R matches, losing in this round in his first two appearances in 2003 (l. to El Aynaoui) and 2004 (l. to Roddick). The 33-year-old Spaniard is 26-3 against Aussies since May 2007 with all three losses coming to Nick Kyrgios. The No. 203-ranked Kokkinakis is 2-4 lifetime against Top 10 opponents and last year he beat No. 1 Federer at ATP Masters 1000 Miami. Kokkinakis is trying to reach the 3R in a Grand Slam tournament for the first time since 2015 Roland Garros. He broke a seven-match 1R losing streak in Grand Slam events with his 1R win Medvedev, the hottest player on the ATP Tour this summer with a 15-2 record, tries to reach the 3R at the US Open for the second straight year. The 23-year-old Russian takes on Bolivian Hugo Dellien, who is trying to each his first career Top 10 win (0-3). Medvedev leads the ATP Tour with 45 overall wins and 32 on hard courts. Zverev brings a 3-1 head-to-head record against #NextGenATP American Frances Tiafoe, who is trying to reach the 3R in Flushing Meadows for the first time. Zverev opened with a five-set win over Radu Albot and he is looking to reach the 3R for the second straight year. Tiafoe has a 3-14 career record vs. Top 10 opponents (1-4 in Grand Slam events) with his last win over No. 9 Anderson in 2R at Australian Open in January. His first Top 10 win came over No. 7 Zverev in 2017 ATP Masters 1000 Cincinnati 2R.
