Created by Paul Deeney and Bruce Timm as the new supervillain and romantic interest in the Joker in Batman: The Animated Series on September 11, 1992, it was later adapted into the DC Comics canon, starting with Batman Adventures #12 (September 1993). Harley is a frequent accomplice and lover of the Joker, who was her patient when she worked as a psychiatrist trainee at the Arkham Gotham City Refuge. Her alias is a play called Harlequin, a character that originated in commedia dell'arte. She also teamed up with other villains Poison Ivy and Catwoman, a trio known as the Gotham City Sirens; Ivy is a close friend and a romantic interest harley. After The New 52 comics, she was portrayed as an antihero and a recurring core member of Suicide Squad, which left her abusive relationship with the Joker behind; However, in most other media the character is still portrayed as a supervillain and the Joker's girlfriend. Originally voiced by Arlene Sorkin in the DC animated universe, she has since appeared in various other DC projects voiced by actresses such as Tara Strong, Heinden Walch, Laura Bailey, Jenny Slate, Melissa Rauch, Laura Post and Kaley Cuoco; the latter provided the voice of the character in her animated series. Mia Sara played a character in the 2002 television series Birds of Prey. Harley quinn made her debut in the DC Extended Universe Suicide Squad (2016), played by Margot Robbie, who starred in The Birds of Prey (2020) and will next appear in Suicide Squad (2020). The Story of The Making Introduction of the Name of Harley quinn first appears in Book II, Chapter I of James Joyce's famous 1939 book Finnegans Wake as part of the choreographed team of the heads of Harley quinn and Coollimbeina, a reference to the 16th century commedia dell'arte characters of Harlequin and Columbine. The Harley quinn DC character first appeared in the BATN DC animated universe: An animated episode of the Joker series in favor, in what was originally supposed to be the animated equivalent of going to the role. Several police officers had to be taken hostage by someone jumping out of the cake, and it was decided that having the Joker do it himself would be too strange, although he would end up doing it anyway. So they created the Joker's female assistant; it will become his love interest. Arlene Sorkin, the former star of the soap opera Days of Our Lives, appeared in a dream sequence on this series in which she wore a jester costume; they used this scene as an inspiration for quinn. Having conquered Sorkin since the days of college, Paul Deeney included aspects of his personality in the character and even forced Sorkin himself to voice the character. She was also inspired by a 'stormy but non-violent' friend. according to Timm. The origin story of the 1994 graphic novel The Adventures of Batman: Mad Love tells the origin story of the character. Written and drawn by Deeney and Timm, the comic is based on the style and continuity of Batman: The Animated Series. He describes Dr. Harlin Francis quinzel, Ph.D., as a psychologist at Arkham Asylum, who falls in love with the Joker and becomes his accomplice and again, out again a girlfriend. The story was widely praised and won the Eisner and Harvey Awards for Best Comic of the Year in a Single Issue. The new series The Adventures of Batman adapted Mad Love as an episode of the same name in 1999. It was the second animated style comic adapted for the series, and the other was The Knights of the Year. And her first appearance was actually Batman: the animated series Harleen kwinzel becomes fascinated by the Joker while working at arkham Asylum and volunteering to help treat him. She falls hopelessly in love with the Joker during their sessions, and she helps him escape from the refuge more than once. When Batman returns the seriously wounded Joker to Arkham, she dresses up as a jester's costume to become Harley queen, the Joker's assistant. Joker often insults, ignores, hurts and even tries to kill Harley, but she always comes back to him, convinced that he genuinely loves her. An extended role after Batman: The Animated Series and the New Adventures of Batman, Harley makes several other animated appearances. She appears as one of the four main female characters of the web cartoon Gotham Girls. She has also appeared as a guest in other cartoons in the DC animated universe, appearing alongside the Joker in an episode of Wild Cards and with Poison Ivy in an episode of Hard as Nails. Harley quinn appears in Best in the World: Batman/Superman (a collection consisting of the three-episode film Superman: Animated Episode Best in the World) as a contender and foil for Lex Luthor's assistant Mercy of the Grave; everyone takes an immediate dislike for the other, at one point brutally fighting each other as Lex Luthor and the Joker have a business encounter. In the film's climax, Harley associates Graves as a human shield with a combat robot that confronts Superman and Batman, but Graves is rescued by two heroes without further harm. Harley was last seen hauled to jail while raving madly at the news to reports that Mercy was watching on TV and laughing at Harley's expense. The animated film Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker takes place in the future, long after the events in Batman: The Animated Series. It includes a flashback scene in which Harley helps the Joker torture Tim Drake until he becomes The Joker Jr., a mad miniature version of Prince of Crime's Clown; then it falls into a deep pit during the with Batgirl. At the end of the film, a pair of twin girls who model models The Joker was released on bail to her grandmother, who angrily scolds them, to which they reply, Oh, shut up, Nana Harley! before, her suit made several appearances in episodes of the future Batcave. The characterization of Harlin quinzel by Dr. Harlin Francis Kwinzel is portrayed as being a psychiatrist at Gotham City Arkham Asylum. Gotham City Sirens #7 (February 2010) shows Harley visiting her family for the holiday season, in which they are portrayed as very dysfunctional. It is noted that the reason Harley was engaged in psychiatry was the understanding of her own broken family. The origin story of the character tells that Harleen Kuinzel was once a psychiatrist in the Arkham Asylum and was appointed to treat the Joker. Eventually she falls in love with the Joker and becomes his lover and accomplice after straining her mind through a series of lies. She follows suit in the Joker's clownish, crime antics and takes the name Harley quinn, a play about Harlequin from a character in the commedia dell'arte. Speaking with a pronounced north-eastern accent, Harley calls the Joker Mista J and Pudbin, the terms of affection that have since been used in almost all adaptations in which two characters appear. The appearance of Harley quinn as she appears in the fifth volume of Suicide Squad (August 2017). Its redesign aligns it with the portrayal of Margot Robbie's character in the film of the same name. The art of Otto Schmidt. Harley quinn was first featured in Batman: The Animated Series, appearing in the style of a buffoon. She wore a black domino mask, white face makeup, and one piece of black and red mottled outfit with a hood. Unlike the Joker, Harley's skin is not permanently white in the animated series, as it is repeated in scenes showing Harley from a suit with normal skin color. Dr. Harlin Kuinzel, Doctor, is portrayed as having blond hair and blue eyes. She usually wears glasses, a skirt, high-heeled shoes and a white lab coat. In her early appearances in comics until 2011, the heroine wore the original black and red costume from the animated series. In September 2011, The New 52 rebooted DC Continuity. In this new timeline, Harley quinn had an updated look that lasted until 2016. The new 52 showed Harley quinn with a alternating black and red tinted outfit with a sleeveless top, elbow pads, tight shorts, knee pads, and boots. Her hair color was changed to semi-red and half-black, like the cap of her previous incarnation. According to new origins, her skin was discolored as a result of the Joker kicking her in a vat of acid. After DC Rebirth 2016, Harley quinn made her debut in the third volume of her eponymous series, as well as in the fifth volume of Suicide Squad. Her hair color is now blonde with a blue dip dye on the left side and pink dye falling to the right and she two new outfits. One outfit consists of tight, blue and red shorts, a ripped T-shirt, a satin jacket, fingerless gloves, fishnet stockings, a studded belt and lace boots, similar to Margot Robbie's portrayal of the character in the 2016 film Suicide Squad. Another outfit of the character - two-ton, black-red suit, consisting of a top with full sleeves, narrow shorts, opaque stockings, garter fastenings and boots. She is also known to wear both red and black nail polishes on nails and nails in a variable fashion. Harley quinn is decorated with a variety of tattoos, including four diamonds on the upper right thigh. As part of the extended DC universe, both Harley and the Joker have multiple tattoos, with Harley with them on the cheek, forearm, legs and stomach. Going to comics and publishing history After the success of the animated series, the character proved so popular, it was eventually added to the canon of Batman comics. She first appeared in the comic book The Adventures of Batman, and then in the original graphic novel Batman: Harley quinn as part of the history of No Man's Land, although she has already appeared in Elseworlds Batman: Thrillkiller and Batman: Thrillkiller '62 in 1997. The comic book version of quinn, like the comic book version of the Joker, is more dangerously violent and less humorously quirky than the animated series version. Despite her noticeably more violent behavior, Harley occasionally shows mercy and compassion; She, in particular, stops the poison ivy from killing Batman, instead urging her to leave the hero hanging bound and gagged from a large statue. The current series of Harley quinn was reported monthly by DC Comics for 38 issues from 2001 to 2003. The creators who contributed to the title included Carl Kesel, Terry Dodson, J.J. Lieberman, and Mike Huddleston. The series dealt with her going solo, eventually starting a gang and then fleeing Gotham to the city of Metropolis with her friend Poison Ivy. He dies, only to be resurrected and then returned to Gotham. The series ends with Harley surrendering to Arkham's hideout, finally realizing that she needs help. We also learn in #8 from the comics that Harley had a relationship in college with fellow psychology student Guy Kopsky, whose suicide foreshadowed her obsession with the Joker. Harley later appears in the Jeff Hush series. She is then seen in the Villains United Infinite Crisis special, where she is one of the many villains who escape from Arkham (although she is knocked unconscious the moment she escapes). In the One Year Later storyline, Harley is a prisoner in Arkham, briefly referred to in Detective Comics #823 (November 2006). Harley then appeared in Batman #663 (April 2007), in which she helps the Joker with a plan to kill all his former henchmen, unaware that the strike line in the scheme is her death. On it's, she shoots him in the shoulder. Harley pops up in Detective Comics #831 (June 2007), written by Paul Deeney. Harley has spent the last year applying for parole, only to see her request systematically rejected by Bruce Wayne, a member of the Arkham Medical Commission. She is kidnapped by Peyton Riley, a new woman Ventriloquist, who offers her a job; Harley turns the job down out of respect for the memory of Arnold Wesker, originally Ventriloquist, who tried to cheer her up during her first week in Arkham while the Joker was still on the loose. She then helps Batman and Commissioner Jim Gordon thwart the imposter's plans. Although Riley escapes, Bruce Wayne is impressed by Harley's efforts to redeem and agrees to grant her parole. Birds of Prey #105 (June 2007) shows Harley quinn as the sixth member of the Secret Six. In the #108 room after hearing that Oracle sent Russian authorities footage of a Deadshot teammate killing an employer six as payback for double crossing them, Harley asks: Is it a bad time to say: Am I quit? So leaving the team. In Countdown #43 (July 2007), Harley appears to have reformed and is shown living in the Amazon-run women's shelter. Pumping out a jester costume and clown make-up, she now wears only an Amazonian table or chiton. She befriended a former female cat, replaced by Holly Robinson, and then persuaded her to join her at the orphanage, where she works as an assistant. They are both brought to Themisira Athena (actually grandma of goodness) and start learning Amazon. Holly and Harley then meet the real Athena and meet Mary Marvel. The group reveals the deception of her grandmother, and Holly, Harley and Mary follow her as she retreats to Apcolips. Mary finds the Olympic gods, whom her grandmother held captive, and the group frees them. Harley receives credentials from Talia as a reward. Returning to Earth, the forces disappear, and Harley and Holly return to Gotham City. Gotham City Sirens Harley quinn joins forces with Poison Ivy (Pamela Isley) and Catwoman (Selina Kyle) in the Gotham City Sirens series. Moving to Pamela Isley in Riddler's apartment, she meets with a female cat, who invites them to live and work together. A new villain who tries to film Selina Kyle named Boneblaster breaks into the apartment, and three of them have to move after they have defeated him. Later, after a chance encounter with Hash, the Joker tries to kill her, apparently out of jealousy. He was rescued by Ivy and a female cat, and it later emerged that the assailant was not a real Joker, but one of his old henchmen posing as him. Dr. Harleen Kuinzel, Ph.D., in Clay Mann and Seth Mann's Work at Gotham City Sirens #7, Harley quinn visits her family in Bensonhurst, during the holiday season. Harley's father is a con artist who in prison, and her brother, Barry, is a loser with a dead-end rock star dream. Her mother, Sharon, wants her to stop the villain and hero stuff. A dysfunctional, horrific experience while visiting a family forces her to return home to the Common Shelter of Gotham City Sirens, where Harley, a catwoman and poison ivy spend the rest of Christmas together. After several adventures with a female cat and Ivy, Harley betrays them and breaks into Arkham's hideout, intending to kill the Joker for years of his abuse. However, Harley eventually decides to release the Joker from his cell instead, and together they orchestrated a violent takeover of the facility, resulting in most guards and staff being either killed or taken hostage by the prisoners. Harley and the Joker were eventually defeated by Batman and the female cat, and Harley was last seen cornering him when he was tied up in a straitjacket and muzzle. Soon after, Poison Ivy breaks into Harley's cell and tries to kill her for treachery, but instead offers to release her if she helps her kill the catwoman who left both of her fellow Sirens in Arkham. Harley agrees, and they set off in the trap of a female cat. During the ensuing fight, the catwoman says she saw them well and only wanted to help. As Batman is about to arrest them, Catwoman helps the two of them escape. In August 2016, the six-episode miniseries Poison Ivy: Cycle of Life and Death debuted, reuniting Harley queen, Poison Ivy and CatWoman. Harley appears in the debut issue as Dr. Harleen Kuinsel, Ph.D., with continued appearances throughout the series. The new 52/Harley quinn Revival After the resumption of DC in 2011 of its titles, the costume and appearance of Harley quinn have been completely updated. The new 52 shows Harley quinn with a sleeveless top, tight shorts, and boots. Her hair color has also been changed to semi-red and half black, and her bleached white skin is the result of being kicked in a vat of Joker acid. After an altercation with the Joker, she falls into a murderous madness directed against the people responsible for the imprisonment of the Joker. Captured by the Black Canary, she is forcibly introduced to Suicide Squad by Amanda Waller. However, when she discovers the Joker is rumored to be dead, he takes the extra toll of her already-added wit, and betraying the Suicide Squad, she jeopardizes their safety and secrecy by turning herself into the Gotham Police Department to gain access to the Joker's skinned face. Her plan pays off and she manages to rebuild her face; Though, in a further psychotic episode, Harley captures and binds Deadshot, and places the Joker's skind face over Deadshot's face to continue the conversation with his dead lover. Deadshot lures Harley close by shooting and seriously injuring her conversation time. After the Post Returns to Gotham in the Death of the Family plot, he forces her to disguise himself in his old Little Red Riding Hood costume and trick Batman into coming to the chemical plant where they first met. Batman falls into the tank and demands that Harley tell him where the Joker is. However, she only responds, in tears, it is no longer the Joker she has fallen in love with. Harley quinn in New 52, the art of Clay Mann and Seth Mann on July 16, 2013, DC announced that a new comic book series by Harley queen will begin publication in November 2013, written in a joint book by Amanda Conner and her husband Jimmy Palmiotti, the cover illustrated by Conner, and the story illustrated by Chad. The series distanced itself markedly from DC's Batman Family in both tone and background, with Harley no longer having a significant connection to either Batman or the Joker after the Death of the Family storyline. In the series, Harley quinn became a hostess on Coney Island, is a part-time member of the roller derby team, and returned to her job in psychology under her real alias, pointing out that Harley's real identity is not public knowledge of the new status quo. She also befriended an elderly former U.S. secretary of state. an agent named Xi Borgman. Under the letter of Conner and Palmiotti, Harley was reimagined as an antihero who, after being released from Suicide Squad and deleting her public files, more or less appreciates human life and actively tries to improve life in her neighborhood, with mixed results. While the comic book version of the character is still romantically related to the Joker, Harley's later events are also romantically linked to poison ivy. Harley quinn series writers Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Conner confirmed the two characters are in a non-monogamous romantic relationship. Between the releases of #11-13, Harley formed a brief partnership with Power Girl Amnesia and battled with the Hour King and Sportsmaster before the Power Girl's memory was restored, and she left Harley at the top of the Eiffel Tower as punishment for her deception. Harley tries to force her into a romantic relationship with her tenant Mason, but has been unable to make a date because of the myriad responsibilities in her life, balancing her two work with her commitment to her roller derby team and her crime fighter career. With the support of Ivy Harley makes amends to Mason and turns to the Internet to recruit other strong young women in the crime squad she forms. This team, dubbed the Gang of Harleys (due to the fact that all members were fashioned after Harley and adopted similar code names), consisting of young women of different ethnic backgrounds and a gay man named Harvey queen, then fights with Captain Horatio Strong, a naval captain who becomes superhumanly strong after eating an alien sea plant, in honor of Popey. Harley agrees to A woman whose daughter was kidnapped by a gang in Hollywood. Harley quinn has shown several standalone special features that are not directly related to the main series and have several artists. In the scratch and sniff themed Annual Issue, Harley briefly returned to Gotham to rescue his poison ivy girlfriend as Arkham Asylum staff monitored her brains to create a hallucinogenic pathogen. In the Valentine's Day Special, Harley returned to Gotham to win a date prize with Bruce Wayne (who, without her knowledge, is Batman) and finds himself fighting animal rights advocates-turned-supervillain blackmailers. She shares a brief intimate moment with Bruce Wayne. On Coy Island, Batman tells Harley that while he still doesn't trust her, he admires her attempt at heroism and promises not to interfere. Harley kisses Batman and tells him to get lessons on kissing from Bruce Wayne, to whom Batman privately smiles. In Futures End, a series that will run five years in the future, Harley went to the Bahamas in an attempt to save on airfare. The plane carrying her falls over the ocean during a flight through a storm, and Harley washed up on the shores of an island inhabited by a contactless tribe. The tribe quickly declares her a goddess and is determined to meet her god-king, who turns out to be the Joker. After fighting and reconciling, Harley learns the Joker lives on the island as a god and make the inhabitants dress up as various superheroes and hunt him down by playing tricks on them. It's announced that she and the Joker are to get married. She was initially excited about pending marriage until she discovers the two would be sacrificed to the island's volcano as their wedding ceremony ends. In June 2015, a spin-off of the series Harley and Power Girl was launched. The series is set to run six questions and realize while Harley has an amnesiac power girl convinced two is a crime-fighting duo. The story tells the story of two when they travel to a part of deep space known as La Galaxia Del Sombrero during the invisible events mentioned in Harley quinn #12 and then chronicle their journey to return to Earth. Harley breaks up with the Joker and has a romantic relationship with Poison Ivy. The four-year run by Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti on Harley queen, after nearly a hundred episodes, ended with Harley quinn #34 Here's All the People! however the series continues and includes a new team of creators. The ongoing series has no explicit connection to Suicide Squad, other than her new hairstyle, painted for her by one of the tenants in her Brooklyn apartment and several guest shots from characters such as Killer Croc and Deadshot. Harley once again met with Power Girl and even her new assistant Terra. She encountered several villains from penguin to corrupt mayor of New York and is in the process of running for mayor himself when the previous mayor tried to solve the problem of the homeless by feeding them cannibals. She also leads the Vigilante for Hire group; she calls her Harleys gang and has a host of other allies and stalkers, including Red Tool (a parody of Deadpool), Harley Sinn (former nemesis) and various other allies she has made along the way. The mayor objected, abducting her friend Mason and killing him. Harley took revenge, and then he and Ivy went to visit their family. On his return, the Bath Man was spotted all over town and Tony was missing. Not feeling very well after Mason's death, Harley ordered her gang to stay away from her and was impeccably ignored. They went to Arkham to ask Langstrom if he was behind it, but they found him delirious in his cell. He did, however, mention it was different. Meanwhile, Harley went hunting for the Bat Man and filmed it, only to find out it was Tony. Kidnapped moments later, they woke up in Langstrom's lab to find that his wife Francine was the newest Bat Man, and she then jabbed Harley with a Bat Man potion. After this mess, some of her old criminal buddies, including Penguin, Mad Hatter, Scarecrow, Solomon Grundy, False Face, Mr. Freeze, and many other Batman villains took advantage of Harley's grief over her dead friend Mason to separate her from her team. It was a temporary measure, and Harley soon relieved them of mind control and apologized for some of the things she said while on the truth serum. Working alongside all his friends and allies such as Killer Croc, Poison Ivy and Power Girl, Harley demolished the gang. A few weeks later, Riddler showed up late for a fight while Harley and her gang ate at the reformed Condiment King's new hot dog stand, and they easily beat him too. This was followed by a one-shot question in which we see a destroyed future, where the Red Tool tracked down Old Harley at the request of future cyborg Tony. We learn that she married almost everyone she knew at one time or another, and the world was largely destroyed when her Harleys gang became several gangs and tore each other to pieces after the coach was killed/absorbed by Brainiac. Harley finds his old original gang, beats them and recaptures control. This leaves Coach/Brainiac in charge and he heads with the Red Instrument to get home. Back now, she recently went on a one-woman rampage at Apokolips before returning to Earth with a new friend she saved from a grandmother of goodness named Tina to deal with a realtor and cult run by a skeleton-headed fool, calling herself the Lord of death, whom she had heard of a literal pirate broadcast.
