Information – Football Program ()

Purpose

The Sunraysia Academy of Sport 2013 Football program, supported by Football Federation , will provide junior athletes with a high performance sporting program within our region by enhancing pathways for young athletes to achieve their elite sporting and personal ambitions.

Objectives

1. Identification of regional athletes with long term characteristics for high performance football. 2. To implement a program which takes a holistic approach to an athlete’s development 3. Provide athletes the tools necessary for them to develop as high level athletes ie strength and conditioning program, athlete and career education program. 4. Use an athlete-centred approach which will focus on the processes that need implementing to achieve both short and long term goals for athletes.

Targeted Squad

1. A maximum of 16 athletes will be selected. 2. Boys & Girls aged 10-13 years of age

Selection Criteria

Athletes selected in the SAS Football Program must satisfy the following criteria: 1. Be an affiliated member with Swan Hill Soccer League or other Victorian League 2. Selected in a Victorian ‘train-on’ State squad or a Victorian Country representative team or 3. Represented Loddon Lightning in the Victorian Champions League or 4. Demonstrates a high level of skill, commitment and attitude towards their Football development.

Selection Process

Players selected in a Victorian ‘train-on’ State squad, Victorian Country representative team or represented Loddon Mallee Lightning in the Victorian Champions League will automatically be offered a position in the Sunraysia Academy of Sport Football program.

An open trial will be held on Monday 22nd April and Wednesday 24th April from 6-7:30pm at Ken Harrison Reserve, Swan Hill, for all other athletes who wish to be considered for the program. An information session will be held at the completion of the second trial.

Structure of Program

Dave Coward has been selected as the program head coach and will be assisted by Paul Smith. Mitch Brown will coordinate the strength and conditioning program. The program will run from May until September.

The structure of the Sunraysia Academy of Sport Football Program has been designed to provide athletes with the following:

- 2 x 1 ½ hr training sessions per week (Monday & Wednesday nights 6-7:30pm) - 2 x 1 day training camps (July 12th , Sept 23rd Swan Hill) - Individual strength and conditioning program - Sports science (fitness testing –12th July & TBA) and musculoskeletal screening - Athlete career and education sessions - Access to a broad range of medical service providers at a reduced cost - SAS uniform – playing uniform, polo shirt & tracksuit jacket - Athlete diary - SAS Award Night Ticket (Friday Nov 8th)

Cost of Program

The athlete levy for the 2013 Football program is $275. If the levy is paid in full by Monday 6th May 2013, the discounted athlete levy is $250.

In addition there is a uniform levy of $110 which is payable for all first year SAS athletes. This is due on Monday 6th May 2013.
