BOX 2 ALBUM “E” British Parliamentary Delegation to India: 22 November- 2 December 1982 Official photographs were taken in a factory for making bicycles, and the small photographs in colour by James Douglas-Hamilton MP. These include photographs of the Lok Sabha, of John Smith MP, future leader of the Labour party in the UK, of the Taj Mahal, and of Girish Karnad on the third last page, in the top two photographs. He had become a famous Indian film star and extremely well known as a film Producer. He would later head up the Nehru Centre in London.

ALBUM “F” James Douglas-Hamilton (JADH): MP for Edinburgh West 1981- 1987. British-American Parliamentary Group Meeting in Hamilton, Bermuda 17-20 April 1986. 17. PM Margaret Thatcher being introduced to Sir Donald McCallum, during her extensive visit to the leading Ferranti factory in the South Gyle, West Edinburgh, with JADH in attendance as the local MP. 18. At a meeting at Monteviot, the home of MP, before the 1987 General Election. Rowing for Religion in aid of Saint Margaret`s Church at Westminster. It became known as The Speaker`s Summer Regatta in July 1986. The Scottish crew, sponsored by Peat Marwick won their heat against the crew. Some 96 crews participated and each was sponsored to the value of £1,000. 20. Visits by JADH as the Scottish Office Minister for Home Affairs and the Environment to Tower Blocks of housing in , to an empty Prison cell, and to the new road, being built on the Western side of Loch Lomond. 21. Launch of the 1987 Scottish Office Amnesty, during which those possessing illegal weapons could hand them in without penalty, until 30th September 1987.

JADH crossing over the new Dornie Bridge, on the road to Skye having been invited by a newly married honeymoon couple, who would be the first across.

12. Celebrating the Opening of the Dornoch Bridge by Her Majesty the Queen Mother on the morning of 27th August 1991. Her Private Secretary Sir Martin Gilliatt wrote to James Douglas-Hamilton in his capacity as Minister responsible for Trunk Road Construction, asking that “her congratulations may be conveyed to all concerned.”She had been presented with “the very beautiful Caithness Glass model of the bridge,” and Sir Martin also asked that “her sincere gratitude” be conveyed “for such a welcome present.” 13. With the TV Presenter Anne Diamond supporting environmental cleanliness, close to the Thames. 14. JADH Punching a Punch Bag in Shotts Prison. 15. JADH supporting the Walkwise with Wimpey Child Road safety campaign in Glasgow 1991. 16. The official opening of M80 -Stepps Bypass by Councillor Malcolm Waugh and JADH on 8th June 1992. 17. Attendance of JADH at the Chartered Mark Conference and meeting School Teachers; Watching the repair of a weathercock in or close to Ferguslie Park in Paisley, and a visit to the fire Service in Telford, Edinburgh West. 18. A visit to Saint Augustine`s School, just off Broomhouse Road in Edinburgh West. 19. A photograph of JADH beside the iconic Forth Rail Bridge in Queensferry, but he would have to wait until 1999 before he represented South Queensferry as a Regional list MSP

BOX 3 ALBUM “H” James Douglas-Hamilton MP (JADH): Photographs of him as MP for Edinburgh West 1986-1994, and including those as Scottish Office Minister 1987-1994.The photographs are inserted chronologically from back to front.

1. During the 1987 General Election Campaign: JADH Canvassing with Malcolm Rifkind and with Councillor Malcolm Knox wearing blue rosettes in Davidsons Mains, West Edinburgh. 2. At the Official Opening of The Royal Victoria Hospital on 4th December 1986, Lord Glenarthur, Minister of State for Health, with Bruce Weatherstone, Chairman of the Lothian Health Board and JADH in attendance as the local MP. 3. Ian Lang MP, Minister of State holding a Plaque for Scottish Business in the Community with Sir Hector Laing, the Chairman of SCOTBIC. 4. The Rt. Hon. George Younger MP, The Secretary of State for Defence, unveiling the plaque for a new building for Ferranti at Crewe Toll, Edinburgh, and a photograph with George Younger, and left to right Sir Donald McCallum and JADH. 5. JADH at Davidsons Mains Primary School, having presented their Petition to the House of Commons to save the whales from extinction. Also photograph of JADH in Davidsons Mains Park, during the General Election 1987, and newspaper cutting showing letter of support from a constituent, who did not vote for him. 6. Election Boards for James Douglas-Hamilton, alongside Labour Boards, with children playing hide and seek, and JADH chatting to an elector. Also there is a photograph of Councillor Brian Meek, (Leader of the Conservative Group on the Lothian Regional Council), at a polling station in Pentlands. 7. At a Scottish Special Housing Association Sheltered Housing development the Provost of Dundee with residents, and Ernie Ross MP, behind JADH. In addition JADH holds a wooden DUNRENTIN advertisement to publicise a Rent to Mortgage sale of a public sector house in Scotland. 8. JADH visiting the Western General Hospital, and taking instructions at the controls of a mechanical digger. 9. JADH visiting the Strathclyde Fire Brigade HQ, and with Professor Bill Mutch, one of Scotland`s foremost experts on Forestry, and Mrs Cathy Tait and Mrs Margo Mutch in Edinburgh West. 10. Sir Malcolm Rifkind MP, Secretary of State for Scotland, with JADH, and on left Professor Raymond Miquel, Chairman of the Scottish Sports Council on the Left, and with Ken Hutchison, Chief Executive on the Right, at the official opening of the new HQ of the Scottish Sports Council in the South Gyle of Edinburgh West on 27th February 1989. 11. JADH cutting the tape to the Carousel shop in Loudon Castle Park, near to Kilmarnock. 16. A Photograph taken at Ocean Park, , where Tourism between Hong Kong and Scotland was encouraged. Also the Official Opening by JADH of the Ayrshire Tourist Board`s Irvine Tourist Information Centre took place on 1st July 1994. 17. JADH at Craigroyston School, handing over a “Happy Valentine`s Day” message to the School from a school in Munich. At South Queensferry JADH attending with the Lord Provost, the award ceremony for a scout who had overcome many challenges, and finally JADH at a school with children making pottery and other items. 18. 1. JADH in attendance for Cheques being presented to good and charitable causes, and for the Insurance Society of Edinburgh`s Annual Dinner on 6th November 1992, and for the United Distillers Forum at the City Chambers in Edinburgh, with Lord Provost Norman Irons. 2. James Douglas-Hamilton MP, Minister of State for Home Affairs in Perth saluting at the Polish War Memorial for Polish soldiers, who died between 1939 and 1945 “FOR OUR FREEDOM AND YOURS.” 3. Photograph of Members of the Scottish Pharmaceutical General Council at their new HQ on 26th September 1995, and reports in “The Pharmaceutical Journal”, and in “ Chemist and Druggist” on 30th September 1995. 4. Photograph of those associated directly or indirectly with the History of Cliveden. The brother of the 4th Duke of Hamilton was the Earl of Orkney, the Duke of Marlborough`s Chief of Staff and The `s first Field Marshal. After receiving a Peerage he was permitted to stay at Cliveden for the rest of his life. 5. “Making a Difference.” MP and James Douglas- Hamilton MP, mark an award giving event, with leaders of different Charities. 6. JADH at a Fire Station in Strathclyde, and sliding down the Fire Fighters` pole. 7. JADH with his Parliamentary Private Secretary Nirj Deva MP, and at Napier University with Brian Wilson MP standing on his left, and also visiting the Society for the Protection of Unborn Children. 8. JADH with Jenny Hastings, wife of Scottish Rugby International Scott Hastings, JADH as Minister for Health in a Health Campaign Launch, supporting prospective mothers having a sufficiency of folic acid. JADH in addition opening The Endoscopy Unit in Glasgow Royal Infirmary, and separately opening The School of Vision for The Guide Dogs of the Blind Association in Glasgow. 9. JADH waving off from Waverley station the first train from Edinburgh powered by overhead electrical power lines; visiting the DHL train transporting goods and merchandise; at the Dinner of the Institution of Highways and Transportation, on 5th October 1992, and walking along the first stretch of Motorway from Edinburgh to Glasgow, before declaring it formally open, as the Scottish Office Minister responsible for Trunk Roads and Transport. 10. JADH supporting CCTV as a deterrent to Crime and Strathclyde Chief Constable Sir John Orr. 11. Helping make a sign steady using concrete at Newbridge Roundabout, in West Edinburgh, and being shown the Prize to be won for a competition in a South Queensferry School. 12. Dinner with the Rt.Hon. Douglas Hurd, former Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, who was raised to the peerage in 1997.Right to Left: JADH`s son Andrew Douglas-Hamilton, Lord Hurd of Westwell and JADH. 13. A railway journey for JADH across the Forth Rail Bridge by Steam Engine. 7. JADH made an Honorary Surgeon at the opening of the Oak Tree Veterinary Centre on 7th December 1996, and with Councillor Kate Mackenzie and former Councillor John Crombie discussing the future lay out of the Barnton Roundabout with lights, and at the Childrens Traffic Club.

The Press Lobby won but the real victors were the charities which received the proceeds of sponsorship. 13.
