I believe we are so blessed to have been born in the USA, and to top that off, Corinth. Many thanks to our forefathers and mem- bers of our armed services who have served to protect and defend our God-given rights and privileges. One of our privileges we have come to enjoy is the right to vote. This year we have seen a barrage of negative campaigns on both sides of the fence. We have seen greed and power become the driving force of many campaigns. The state of Mississippi and the federal government have passed a number of laws in an effort to provide fair elections for all concerned. This year in the general election on Nov. 6, one of the local candidates was giving away free food about 60 feet from one of the lo- cal polls, with signs posted to vote for him. Mississippi has a law stating no campaign- ing within 150 feet of the polls. However, this was on private property across the street of the South Johns Street poll. Is this legal? Yes. But is is ethical? You de- cide. Election Commissioner Billy Bearden com- plained about this practice.
